Combat Training Center

Two towering, tinted, transparisteel doors slide open to grant you access to the central chamber of the Combat Training Halls. The main room is wide and open and as large as as a holoball field. Tall walls stretch towards a domed ceiling that is made up of rows of ambient lights that spread out and fill the room with soft even lighting that eliminates any shades or shadows. Those same walls are lined around the perimeter with racks and stacks of varied weaponry: everything from swords and polearms to rifles and flamethrowers.

There are two signs that hover over each weapon rack to create an alternating motif in the Combat Training Hall: “No Explosions” and “Accorded Neutral Territory”. While the first is fairly obvious, the second speaks to the single law of the Training Halls: all members of the Brotherhood are welcome, and no member is to be killed or maimed without incurring the wrath of the Grand Master and the Inquisitorius.

Combat Training Center

A trio of training dummies are statically set up and spread out in a line, each made out of a blend of alloys and padding that can withstand blows from any standard weaponry with the exception of lightsaber blades. To the side of the dummies, a large sparring mat has been stretched out to create a larger footprint than the typical shockboxing ring. The padding is good for helping teach new combat students how to take a fall without injury and offers firm footing, but the hard rubber mat is hardly forgiving.

Behind the sparring area is a door that leads to a small archives that combat students can use to view holorecordings of fights and duels from the past as well as relevant information on combat tactics, techniques, and forms. On the opposite side of the archives at the far end of central room is the locker room that members can safely store their equipment.

The final and probably most important element of the Combat Training Hall is the onsite Med Ward. The maglock door is sealed off and can only be opened by an attending Medic. The Medical facilities feature state of the art bacta tanks for recovery and aftercare. A combination of observation and waiting room rests adjacent to the recovery center and features two large monitors that display a live feed of the central room.

The Combat Halls are staffed around the clock, allowing combat students and mentors alike to come and go as they please at odd or regular hours. It also available for members looking to prove their worth to compete in the Antei Combat Center.

Shanree entered the sparring area seeing a new individual shadow boxing in the corner. Friendly by nature, and always eager to find new competition, the Miralukan made his way over to him. He was puzzled at first, approaching the new person, as he studied their emotions in the Force. With no eyes Shanree could not perceive the world, or other people, visually; He saw through the Living Force; It surrounded them all, and it bound everything living together. Everything inert and inanimate Shanree perceived as silhouettes and outlines whereas living beings, creatures, and organisms glowed brightly and were vivid in detail and context. While not entirely analogous to visual sight, he often found it useful to describe what he perceived in ’Sighted’ terms for others. What he saw here confused him because he could normally determine many things about a person through his ability to perceive, like their species for instance. This person was– hard to parse.

“Hi there, Stranger. I couldn’t help but notice something that looked like a Teras Kasi taolu,” Shanree offered his hand as he approached, waiting until they’d finished their series of practiced movements.

The other person studied Shanree carefully at first but figured, judging by the half-smile he perceived through the Force, that he was amused enough, “We call it a Jurus in my school, but yes. You know Teras Kasi? I don’t practice a very– uh, common form…”

Shanree smiled, and just when he looked like he was on the cusp of saying something, he changed his mind. He took a few lithe steps back and fell in a low-stance, as if he were sitting in the saddle of some beast, with practiced ease. His arms cartwheeled in a smooth motion and came, with some flourishes at the wrist, into a boxing position before him– a beginning position for a series of movements any student of Teras Kasi should know immediately.

If he had eyes, they would have had an eager glint in them. His presence in the Force radiated a friendly, but competitive aura to anyone with the capacity to sense it, “What about a friendly bout? I’ll show you my Teras Kasi if you show me yours? I’m Shanree Argentin, student of Master Londu Huan of the School of Shiliese Teras Kasi.”

The man spent a long moment considering what to do, as He wasn’t normally in the habit of revealing much about himself, but he could sense the Miralukan’s emotions very clearly and they seemed genuine.

The stranger slid a foot back gracefully and bent his knees so that he settled into his own low stance, his hands held out before him unclenched and relaxed, “Very well, I’m Jade Hext. I was a student of Master Corr Rene of the school of Yu Esp Zwa Kigh.”

Shanree waited several heartbeats, then lurched into motion like a predatory animal. His hand flew at Jade’s face in a blur of motion, a combo of three punches. Jade’s footwork, combined with some movement at the waist, meant the Miralukan’s fists found only air. He waited for the fourth punch and with deft hands he grabbed Shanree’s wrist and pulled him forward. Jade used his leverage to launch a knee forward to catch the other man in the stomach. Shanree was pulled off his balance but was able to get his own knee up in time. It interlocked with Jades and he used his own leverage now to push both of their legs back to the sparring mat. His foot hooked around the back of Jade’s ankle, keeping them locked face to face even whilst Jade attempted to raise his foot and break away.

Jade jab forward, his hand snaking around the arm Shanree swept across to block him. The blow struck the Miralukan in the collarbone and caused him to stumble backwards. A look of amused confusion played across Shanree’s face, “That was a new one.”

A quiet sort of pride emanated from the otherwise enigmatic man as Jade replied with a grin in his voice, “That was one of my own, actually.”

Shanree cracked his neck and limbered up his shoulders before settling once more into a ready stance, his hands again doing a series of forms before settling into a boxing position, “What does Yu Esp Zwa Kigh mean? I’m not familiar with that style of Teras Kasi.”

Jade returned to his same ready position with the same lack of flourish with the smoothness of water which suggested long practice and great confidence to Shanree, “It means Way of the Anchored Soul. It’s a very old school of Teras Kasi, some say it’s the first.”

The enigmatic stranger moved forward with sudden rapidity, closing the small distance between them in a moment. His hands flew erratically at Shanree from obscure and unpredictable angles with open palms. For his part Shanree did well using his movement and his arms to deflect, block, and dodge the strikes. He waited for the opening he was looking for and struck with suddenness. Jade launched a side kick that missed, but it hooked back seeking to ax a heel in the side of Shanree’s head. Having ducked under the first sweep of the kick he lurched in and tackled Jade under the leg and took him to the floor. Like a constrictor, Shanree was upon the man and seeking the dominant position.
