bridges

Built from the shell of an ancient foundation, the Arx Colosseum has undergone renovations to allow multiple new configurations for battle. Its spectator setup remains largely the same, with high walls, tall enough for even the most savvy Jedi to find unscalable that lead up to spectator chairs which are divided into nearly organized sections to accommodate several thousand people. At the center, an elongated platform “box” contains a central throne of stone with various seats of smaller scale lined beside it in both directions. Two large holo-projection screens are set up on each side of the Colosseum, offering different angles of the match bia holocam drones.

Today’s setup is known as The Bridges.

High-suspended walkways cross and weave through multiple levels of platforms. Some are solid, metal and duracrete crafting an unmoving foundation. Others are mere rope and wood, swaying with even the most gentle of breezes.

Below the walkways is a void filled with mist, the ground unseen for combatants and spectators alike. Periodic ripples of electrical energy can be seen through the mist, hinting to the deadly nature of the arena floor below.

After receiving enough time to heal, along with the bacta bath to cure any extra aches and pains, the Elder now readied herself and her companion, Zuska for this final prelim trial. Awaiting the moment the lift doors would open to reveal this new configuration to the colosseum, as her data pad indicated, The Bridges. Not long into the pondering of how these ‘bridges' would affect the fight itself, along with who she was fighting against, the doors slowly opened, the din of the crowd becoming a roar. Walking out onto the solid duracrete platform, Tahiri stepped forward towards the beginning of the first bridge, leaning over to the edge to see where the bottom was. Even though the mist obscured it, her entire body tingled with the sensation of electricity, her eyes confirming this as they caught the ripples and arches of charged particles jumped in the mist itself.

Turning her attention back to the bridges, carefully taking in the different constructions of bridges, and the platforms to which they connected too. It seemed like a maze, however her sharp eyes perceived the many different paths, some safe, while others were more precarious. The audience silenced for a moment, before she heard Idris’ enthusiastic voice over the loudspeakers announce their battle.

“Are we ready for Round Three! Let’s get this party started,” the crowd cheered in response before settling down again.“At this end of the arena is…” pausing for a moment to take a deep breath, “AdeptTahiriKahnDrakonNight-ThorndiMorteTarentaeofthediPlagia.” Taking a few inhales to get his exasperated breath back, “Verses Vynn Salm of Ad Vizsla! Good luck combatants.”

Smirking, Tahiri shook her head and tapped her leg for Zuska to keep up, before taking off at a light jog across the bridges.

Making her way across a series of bridges, both stable duracrete and rickety wooden ones, till several converged to connect to a centralized platform. On the other side, coming across a similar bridge, was her opponent, Vynn Salm.

"So, a Mandalorian. Well, not the first time I've been up against one," smiling her signature fanged smile, she bowed. "Clan differences aside, you and I are both honorable warriors. As such, I wish for this to be an honorable fight, however not to the death. We fight till neither of us can go on, or the klaxon rings out that time is up."

"You're a Sith. How do I know if you are true to your word?" The Mandalorian gripped the hilts of his sabers. "Let your actions show your true intentions, and I shall see if you're honorable for a quick death, or not." Before the Togruta could reply in her defense, the Vizslan was already barreling towards her. The hum of his blazing white sabers coming to life, as he crossed the distance in far less time then she would have accounted for, with as heavy of armor as he had on.

Delving into the wellspring of Force energy around her, the Sith Adept let it flow through her muscles as she sprang back in time, just before his sabers sliced down hard through the air in the spot she had just occupied. Calling her own sabers to her palms, taking a low defensive stance in the middle of the bridge.

“Well then,” pausing, her face hardening into a mask of determination and resolve. “We shall see, if you are in fact honorable yourself.”

The crowd erupted as Vynn’s sabers came crashing down from his powerful overhead strike. The blades left deep slices in the bridge they were on. He pressed the attack with quick, strong attacks that swept in from the sides. The clash of sabers impacting each other echoed through the arena. The diminutive Togruta dodged and parried the strikes like a true master. She was good, using both her body and sabers to deflect the blows enough that they missed but didn’t challenge the strength of the assault.

As Vynn slowed his strikes down, she lept into action. Spinning and twisting her blades at various angles as she became a tornado of red sabers. What she lacked in size and strength she more than made up for in speed and tenacity. The crowd cheers got even louder as she pressed forward causing Vynn to slowly give up ground as he moved to regain his balance. Eventually able to match her speed the two became a deadly whirlwind of red and white sabers. Tahiri spun and jumped around as Vynn moved in a tight controlled circle to keep her in front of him.

With his focus on the Sith, Vynn had lost track of the black Vornskr that had stayed back when the fight started. As the Vizslan was attempting to reverse one of Tahiri’s blows the animal struck his tail impacting Vynn in the back of his leg. The painful stab caused a break in his focus and with his attention now split between the two enemies a red saber stuck against his right shoulder. Only the Beskar saved his arm from being separated from his body. He spun as best he could throwing both sabers out in a wide circle to give him room. He needed to get himself refocused on the fight and used the force to leap out onto another bridge.

As the Mandalorian disengaged and leapt over onto another of the more stable bridges, Tahiri quickly assessed the bridge and its connections before pursuing him. Sending a command across the mental link she shared with Hadzuska, the Elder sent him down a path of several bridges. A plan began to formulate in her mind's eye as to how to defeat this Vizslan, but it needed to be timed properly. With the Force still lending its strength to her body, she gracefully jumped, twisting before landing smoothly only a few meters from Vynn.

“Well now, are we already planning a tactical retreat? Or are you going to face me?” Giving him a sly grin, the lithe Togruta sprang forward with a flurry of blows—-combining her strikes with flips and twists, going high and then low, testing every possible defense the Mandalorian could possibly have.

Vynn countered swiftly, but even he was forced to give up ground as she continued to press the offense. Seizing the tendrils of the Force as he parried her blades, the Feeorin used his superior height and strength to his advantage, twisting and spinning her blades in quick circular motions to disarm her.

Feeling her blades about to be ripped from her hands, Tahiri decided to take the best option she could see in that moment. As the Vizslan twisted his blades around hers, the Elder flipped both switches of her sabers off. The Mandalorian nearly fell forward towards her; however, she gathered the Force within her arms, using a shoving motion that pushed him away from her while simultaneously stepping back herself.

Once there was some distance between the two of them, the petite Togruta stowed her shoto blade away. She lifted her hand up from her side, holding something while crackling reddish white sparks jumped between her palm and fingers. Upon seeing this, the Vizslan stood his ground, one blade held above his head and the other across his body at chest height, ready for whatever she threw at him. Flicking her wrist out, Tahiri sent multiple streams of lightning towards different parts of his body and the area around him.

White blades caught the streams that were aimed for his body, ignoring the ones that hit the ground around him. Stepping forward, he leaned against the incoming streams, only to notice the feeling of a ding of metal dinging against his helmet and pushing it backward a tad. A small crack formed in the edge of his visor. The lightning ceased as he slashed at where Tahiri stood; however, the Togruta had disappeared altogether. The throwing knife stuck in his helm was the only thing she left behind.

“Who’s retreating now?” his voice boomed as he reached up, pulled the throwing knife from his visor, and threw it from the bridge. He had lost her signature in the force as the Tarentae concealed herself. Her Vornsker however was not able to do so. Goading his opponent the Feeorin reactivated his lightsabers and turned towards the creature as it tried to approach him again from behind. The nearly black predator dropped into a low aggressive stance.

“If you won’t fight me, at least your pet will.”

He didn’t wait for a reply as he lashed out with his saber at the creature causing it to leap back. Its element of surprise was gone, and the predatory creature resorted back to its primal instincts when outmatched. It sought safety in the distance and started to run back to create distance between itself and the Mandalorian. But it stopped in its tracks, still moving its feet but going nowhere Vynn had lifted the creature off the ground. The Force holding it in place a meter in the air, Vynn threw his saber at it the white blade whirling towards its target.

Unable to keep herself hidden Tahiri lept from her hidden perch and intercepted the blade with her own. Unable to stand by as her beloved pet was killed was just the gamble Vynn had relied on. His now deactivated lightsaber bounced onto the bridge twice before teetering on the edge. In a simultaneous move, the Sith kicked the lightsaber over the edge, and Vynn used his hold on the Vornsker to shove it away from him in the other direction. He reached out to bring his lightsaber towards him. Tahiri’s hand went out, the force shoving her pet to an awkwardly hard landing on a different bridge.

She barely had time to intercept the white-hot blades of Vynn as he spun and struck at her. Again the two were locked into a deadly flow of lightsabers, their bodies twisting out of the way of each other’s strikes. If one didn’t know better it would have looked like an intricate and well-choreographed dance. Two masters going at it on equal ground was a beautiful sight and a deadly duel.

Vynn’s powerful blows caused her to be pushed back yet again. He slowly drove her to the edge of the bridge where she would have no room to dodge without falling off into the mist and electricity below. Two massive overhead strikes locked onto the Sith's blades as Vynn used his wide stance and powerful body to force Tahiri’s blades dangerously close to her face. She struggled under the power as Vynn tried to double his efforts. In a wild and desperate gamble, Tahiri used her smaller size and the strength of Vynn to her advantage. She moved her feet together and began to slide, the Feeorin’s power propelling her through his widely spread legs. As he staggers forward a step she spun and stood behind him. Her saber slashed his Jetpack and the force amplified her strength as he kicked him square in the back. He plummeted through the air, his damaged jetpack unable to fire, into the mist below.
