Vai shares the usual appearance of the Ryn species. Her short, but lithe body is covered in cinnamon brown fur, which hides most of her dark grey skin minus on her palms, feet, and some of her face. Her thin and straight chitinous nose is set beneath thick ashen grey brows and between golden yellow eyes. Creases at the corner of her eyes and mouth, and a couple along her forehead give away her age while her short, lithe, and toned body does not. Thickly white hair streaked heavily with grey hangs to the small of her back when not in its usual braid. Vai's history is mirrored through scars on her body, irregular X-shaped gashes on her back, a few cuts bisecting the fur on her tail, and a nice bolt hole scar through her left leg.
Vai’s long and nimble fingers have treated many patients in less than desirable places. From slave compounds, battlefields, to the poor backsystem moon settlement she calls home. The Ryn is used to the med ward being her kitchen table or some field than some pristine, high-tech facility. She makes do, and uses whatever she can to get the patient stable and patched up. Whether that means using two blasters as splints, tearing clothes for bandages, etc. Her methods don't hold a match to an actually med ward, but they do their job of keeping one alive. That said, there may be wounds that Vai does not have the ability to tend and her basic reading skills leaves her Xenobiology knowledge limited. Let's not talk about her bedside manners.
As a slave-born Ryn who lucked out in being valued for entertainment purposes, Vai had become well skilled in manipulating her fluted chitinous nose. From airy music to chirping and trilling in binary with droids, to combining her subterfuge with her flute skills to project mundane sounds a short distance away. However, as the years have paid testimony to, old tricks catch on fast. This notable ability is easily recognizable once encountered several times and can lead to herself being remembered or having adversaries become prepared to counter such skills.
In her youth, Vai had quite enjoyed playing rounds of Sabacc. She would even attempt to access the Force through it — something she proved to be very bad at. Despite that and later with battling with PTSD from war, Vai still embraces the card game to uncoil and relax while off duty. It's often one of the few times she bonds with her comrades, that and sharing tea time — earned her respect if the kettle comes on. Others may be wary to sit down and bond with the woman with her usual stoic, bold demeanor coming to mind, perhaps wondering if there are alternative motives at play. This sabacc hound is an awful cheater, however, if she drinks during a game, quite obvious to her fellow players who may react negatively in kind.
Vai isn't reserved about her opinions, she tells it how it is. If she thinks someone is being a fool, she'll share it, either through a hard stare under an arched brow or bluntly spoken. She's stern when taking control of a situation, especially with a patient who is fussing or resistive. One the opposite side, the Ryn matron doesn't show openly warmth to others often. It often comes to a surprise to others when she does, and her usual rough straight shooter demeanor leads people to believe she would have strong opinions on their personal choices — something she doesn't have due to believing one should fight their own path. Well, as long as you aren't her current patient.
Vai has fought teeth and nail through a slave revolt, been to war, and made a life of fighting for the freedom of others. However, while her wisdom in combat has improved, her aging body has not. The Ryn is still well toned for her age, it has become quite apparent younger, stronger, and quicker opponents. Because of her age, Vai has started focusing on finishing conflict quickly and conserving stamina. Utilizing her opponents weight and momentum to break bones, exploiting injuries or weaknesses, using cryo-grenades and smoke bombs, etc. Incapacitate their ability to fight for even just a moment in order to move past, whether that's running on or dealing with the next combatant. Regardless, Vai could find herself overwhelmed by multiple opponents or misjudge how far she can push herself.
A slave is given nothing. So if you get a hold of a weapon, a link to freedom, you hold onto it fiercely. You fight fiercely. Vai has learned it is better to be versatile with a single weapon than to carry many. The ex-combat medic has learned not only to shoot a gun, but to utilize one equally as a club and bayonet. This makes her a combatant to watch out for in both close and ranged encounters. While one may think they have the advantage when engaging a shooter in close quarters, they would quickly find themselves facing a determined and practiced Ryn swinging and jabbing right back. Vai may have trouble with multiple combatants as dealing with one gives her pause in movement that could keep her from reacting in time to another — especially if the first isn't incapacited by then.
