Athletically built, Darius Blackwind is of average height with an angular face and slightly hooded brown eyes. He keeps his facial hair trimmed in a tidy mustache and his shoulder length brown hair has started to grey in patches starting at his temple.
Hailing from deep in uncharted space, Darius has a peculiar accent. His voice blends words together some, the pattern of syllables adjusted to have a rhythm as his natural tongue would have. To those unfamiliar, it seems like he is almost singing when he talks.
After a lifetime spent in one form of starship or another, Darius Blackwind has discovered that he is most at home in the air or in space. Finding himself ill at ease and somewhat awkward while planetside, Darius will generally seek the fastest way to get aboard a ship and into back into his comfort zone.
Born in space, then living aboard a ship since he was twelve years old, Darius has had more than his share of new cultures and experiences in his lifetime. The experiences have aged him mentally, making it difficult to surprise or shock the man. Taking what others may see as exotic as just another in a long line of absurd experiences, Darius barely reacts to such stimulus, and when he does, it is often with bemused annoyance.
One might be forgiven for thinking that Darius' only loyalty is to the Lion of Tarthos, given their decades-long friendship and constant work together. The truth is that Darius' true loyalty is to the Fallen Spear, the prototype ship that hails from the same distant world he is from. His familiarity with the Spear could only be born from decades of masterful experience and countless engagements. As a result, he sees himself as a part of the ship rather than as a mere captain.
Sarcastic and relaxed, Darius seems fairly laid back until the situation calls for violence. Shifting into a demeanor that only a veteran of countless engagements could have, Darius becomes precise, determined, unrelenting, and vicious. Following his education and experiences, he knows all too well the folly of leaving an enemy behind once one has had to engage. As a result, he often will respond with disproportionate force, expending more firepower than is reasonably necessary.
Darius prefers his violence to be meted out from the bridge of a starship or a pilot's yoke, but he is a capable soldier should the need arises. Blackwind tends to marry his personal violence with vice, typically lighting a cigar before wading into battle. While the 'lucky' tradition seems to soothe him, the smoke tends to give away his location, rendering stealth and sneakiness difficult at best.
