With the Great Jedi War on the horizon, and with the drums of war beating, its time for us all to begin arming up and preparing to reclaim our former glory. As part of that, it behooves anyone (read: everyone) who will submit to a Fiction Competition to hone their skills, learn some new ones, and grow as a competitor. That is what this series is about: Training skills. Each week the prompt will set you to write a story while focusing on a particular, crucial, area of writing development.
Week 1: Character Development - Who are we reading about and why are they important?
Week 2: Punctuation - How. Do, you; use: all— of these... (pesky) things?
Week 3: Story Arc - How do we get from here to there?
Week 4: Dialogue - Who's line is it anyways?
Week 5: Setting and Ambiance - Where is your story set and why?
Each prompt will be proceeded by a short tutorial on that week's focus with clues on what I, the judge, will be looking for. I will additionally use the VOICE's Fiction Rubric to aid me. Every week will award 3rd level crescents and points for placement and participation with the over-all winners, the person/people demonstrating the best comprehension of the focuses, skills, and having accumulated the most points awarded 2nd level crescents.
