1. In 3.5 hours the alarm clock has become fourteen minutes slow. At 12 noon the alarm clock will fall behind an additional minute. The clock hands will show 12 noon in fifteen minutes.

2. fake (counterfeit) money

3. As the water rises with the tide, so does the ladder and ship. So the water will never cover over the rung.

4. 111-11=100 or (5 x 5 x 5)-(5 x 5)=100; (5+5+5+5)x 5=100;(5 x 5)(5-(5/5)=100

5.

6. peppers

7. Tomatoes. or to be specific, I like things that start with prepositions.

8.

9. As the balloon lost altitude the three men took of their clothes and threw them overboard to decrease the weight. It kept dropping so the men drew sticks to see who would be forced to jump. The dead man in the desert drew the short stick (half toothpick). He died because of the high jump and probably from being naked in the desert heat and sun.

10. Ask both which one leads out, choose the opposite.

1. 14 minutes

2. presuming that you are counting those who got four as also having gotten three? 10 people.

3. 32 hours

4. Assuming I am not thinking too far out of the box....111-11= 100 and [(5x5)x5]-(5x5) (5x5) x 5

5. Given that the people who got four correct means they are grouped with those who got

6. pepper plants?

7. tomatoes

8. She would fill the five ounce and 11 ounce containers from the original 24 ounce bottle, leaving eight ounces in the medicine bottle. One child down after setting the medicine bottle aside. Next she would empty the 11 ounce container into the thirteen ounce container. Then pour three ounces of the five ounce container into the 13 ounce container, pouring the rest left over from the five into the 11 ounce container. Fill the five ounce container from the 13 ounce container. This leaves 8 ounces in the 13 ounce container. Pour the five ounce bottle into the the 11 ounce container which should mean that you now have three eight ounce doses of medicine. (assuming my math isn't wonked)

9. After they ditched their clothes to drop some weight, they drew straws (or toothpicks in this case) to see who would be thrown out. He got the short toothpick.

10. What door would the other guard tell me to take. The door they point to will inevitably be the door to death.

2. Counterfeit money.

3. As the water rises, so does the rope ladder. The water will never cover the rung.

4. (5 x 5 x 5)-(5 x 5)=100; (5+5+5+5)x 5=100; (5 x 5)(5-(5/5)=100.

5. It is not possible to guess only three fruits correctly: the fourth fruit is then correct too! So nobody has guessed three fruits correctly and 123-43-39-31 = 10 people have guessed four fruits correctly.

10. You must ask one guard (it doesn’t matter which one) which door the other guard would say leads out. Both guards will indicate the same door, which will be the door that doesn’t lead out. For purposes of this explainer, we’ll call the doors A (the safe door), and B (the knock, knock, knocking on heaven’s door). Let’s discuss:

Scenario one: The guard you ask is the one who lies.

If the guard you asked is the one who lies, then he will lead you astray by telling you (falsely) that the other guard – the truthful guard – will point you towards door B. This makes door A the safe bet.

Scenario two: The guard you asked is the one who tells the truth.

If the guard you ask is the one who tells the truth, he will tell you (honestly) that the other guard – the lying guard – will point you towards door B. This makes door A the safe bet.

In both cases, the outcome is the same. To stay alive, you must walk through the opposite door you’ve been told.

1. The alarm clock will show noon in 14 minutes.
2. That would be counterfeit money.
3. It will take 18 hours before the tide reaches the third rung from the top rung.
4. With five 1s = 111-11=100. 3 ways with 5s = (5+5+5+5)x 5=100; (5 x 5 x 5)-(5 x 5)=100; (5 x 5)(5-(5/5)=100.
5. It's impossible to only guess three fruits are correct, so it would be 10 people who guessed four fruits correct.
6. It would be Peppers.
7. Tomatoes.
8. Take the 24 oz. container and fill the 5 oz. and 11 oz. containers. This will leave 8 oz. in the 24 oz. bottle. Then empty the 11 oz. bottle into the 13 oz. bottle. Next pour with 2 oz. from the 5 oz. container into the 13 oz. bottle, and then put the remaining 3 oz. in the 11 oz. bottle. This now leaves the 5 oz. container empty. Next pour 5 oz. from the 13 oz. bottle into the 5 oz. bottle leaving 8 oz. in the 13 oz. bottle. To finish pour the 5 oz. bottle contents into the 11 oz. bottle, giving 8 oz. in this container.
9. The dead ballooner took off his clothes, along with the other two men, to try and reduce the weight in the basket. But that wasn't enough, so they drew straws, in this case toothpicks, to see who had to jump out. The dead ballooner got the shortest toothpick, thus he had to jump.
10. Since you can only ask one guard 1 question, the question to ask would be, to ask one guard which door the other guard would pick. The lying guard would lie about what the truthful guard would, and the truthful guard would truthfully say what the lying would say. In either instance, you would choose the door that is opposite of what either guards answer was.
