The Mos Eisley Cantina. Cloud City. The Jedi Temple. Star Wars is full of memorable venues. Taldryan has a Clan headquarters, but our members don't spend all of their time there. Your task is to create venues that can be used by Clan members during fiction events set in Taldryan territories.
The rules for this competition are:
- Each location must be somewhere in the Caelus System.
- Entries must be a minimum of 150 words per location, with no maximum word count. Submissions will be accepted in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format. Links to Google Docs will not be accepted.
- Members may submit as many entries as they like (provided they're combined into a single file for upload on the DJB website). Each location submitted counts as a separate entry. Entries will be graded individually.
- Pictures are not required, and will have a relatively small impact on how entries are graded.
- Entries submitted to this competition will be published as locations in the Taldryan section of the DJB Wiki, as that's literally the purpose of this competition. Entries involving a particular character's personal space will require that member's permission to post. If members submit multiple versions of the same location (like that one bar), the highest-placing version will become the "canonical" Wiki entry for that location.
The competition will award third-level Crescents, and will be graded on four categories:
- Syntax: How well the entry is written, in terms of grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. This category will also include how easy the description is to follow while reading it.
- Depth: The level of detail put into the description. Your entry should be an exercise in "show, don't tell". Use the five senses. If the setting is outdoors, how warm or cold is it? If the location is set indoors, how bright or dark is the room? If there are people there, who are they, and what are they doing?
- Originality: What makes your training room/cantina/ship hangar/library different from every other training room/cantina/ship hangar/library out there? While there's nothing new under the sun, members will be rewarded for finding new twists on new ideas. Likewise, entries that are obvious reskins of other venues (like slapping the Taldryan logo on the ACC's Combat Training Center) will score low in this category.
- Adherence to Existing Settings: Since entries are required to be set in the Caelus System, they should obviously take the Caelus System's astrography into account. An undersea arcology set on an oceanic planet, while cool, wouldn't score well in this category due to there being no oceanic planets in the Caelus System. Besides physical circumstances, members will score higher for tying their entries into Taldryan's established lore.
For examples of how submissions to this competition might look, we suggest you look at the ACC Venues Database. However, entries are not required to follow the same format as ACC venues.
