Competition: A Heroic Quatrain

Finished
A Heroic Quatrain

Stanzaic Pattern

The heroic (or elegiac) quatrain is iambic pentameter, rhyming abab. That is, the first and third lines rhyme (so they are designated a), and the second and fourth lines rhyme (so they are designated b). Example:

The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,

The lowing herd wind slowly o'er the lea,

The powman homeward plods his weary way,

And leaves the world of darkness and to me.

~Thomas Grey

Your objective is to provide a heroic quatrain of your making.

I left my home in the hour of slumber,
To learn, to live, to fight and see the sight.
The ground where hell and earth collide, thunder.
And return, with new eyes, that very night.

I raise a glass, bright as a chandelier,
to celebrate the prince and princess wed,
though I do not truly wish either dear -
in fact, I dream that both of them be dead.

All heads turn to the sky as fire reigns

Darkness a'blight as terror fills our heart

Heat in the cold, the mists of night refrain

Seconds pass in frozen waves at the start

The sweat of many hearts as one,
What once were dreams is close at hand.
As dawn approaches, comes the sun,
The hope is that things go as planned.

Fear; a path I do not take,
Strength; a path to clear remember,
Clear; a mind, not sleep, awake,
Thence, I am the Jedi Defender.

This war surely we all will play,
The drums of war will be sound,
Soon my clan, will be the day,
Our boots will be on the ground.
