Unnecessary dialogue tags can often slow down a story unnecessarily. If each character has a unique speaking style, or actions are used to bring a certain character into the spotlight as they speak, attributing dialogue is often unnecessary.
In this competition, explore this concept by writing a story of at least 500 words, where dialogue attribution tags are banned. That means no use of words like said, explained, exclaimed, shouted, etc. The story must feature at minimum 20 separate lines of dialogue to qualify and must be focused on one/more of your slotted characters.
Grading will be judged using the official rubric, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/125hThvIEweRL-nHDepON-PV-ixeC8zLp9xmYkI9wkM0/edit#gid=0 with emphasis on how seamlessly the dialogue fits with the narrative. Submit in pdf, docx, or the submission box.
See https://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/news/reports-professor-zentru-la-inaugural-lecture for further advice on writing engaging dialogue. This kind of restrictive writing challenge is supposed to encourage exploration with your writing style, not to be replicated in every story you write.
