Greetings!
This event is very different from anything else you will see, as it challenges you to use some of what you already know, presented by the Headmaster, and some things you may not know. I challenge you to stretch to understand some of the more difficult cryptographic methods available, and to use all your resources to crack this multi-layered encryption.
I've taken a literary work of art, one that should be fairly well known, and encrypted it four times. After the initial encryption, I've added plain text that tells you that your decryption efforts were successful! Remove that text and proceed on decrypting the next encrypted segment.
When you have successfully defeated all four encryptions, you will see a chunk of text that is unpunctuated. I'm sure you can take the first sentence and stick it into Google to recognize the full selection.
In order to get FULL CREDIT for this competition, you will need to submit each step of your answer to the website. The resubmission option will allow us to timestamp your progress, and ensure that you're working for this the way it was intended. Each time you submit a new segment, append it to your previous submission, instead of overwriting it.
I'll give you a hint to get you started. The first encryption is Roman of nature.
I'll not offer any other hints as to the nature of the other encryptions, except to say that I used a resource to help me build them. Hard work will, I'm sure, help you find my resource. I hope that you'll take the time to learn about the ciphers, as much as you'll work to crack them. If the first week completes and no one has gotten it correct, I'll release a second hint. If still no one has completed it on the next to last day, I'll release a third hint.
For the last though, you're on your own. Subscribe to see your first task.
