Competition: [RotL] Week Two - Know Thy Self

Finished
[RotL] Week Two - Know Thy Self

Specifics

"Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories."
- Sun Tzu

The Jedi of Odan-Urr have descended upon New Tython to liberate it. In the streets of Vard Mislu, they take part in a battle that has ruined the very town; in Tanduran, they kill and die in scores, battling across acre and mile, sewing the fields with blood and death. Heroes rise; temptations rise up. What deeper truths about life will the Jedi gleam? What wondrous realizations will they have about life, liberty, and homeworld?

And of course, deep down, within themselves in the fog of war... what terrors await?

Write a poem, any verse you want. Show me how you feel on the ground; I want to feel the fear, touch the sweat as it breaks upon my brow. I want to smell smoke, hear explosions, taste my own blood on my lips, and see the carnage of war. Show me your inner self, and any truths you may have found. Show me how you feel about war.

Platform

Poetry, free-verse, no stanza limit.

A thousand men behind me
A war-host at my back
Our army marches on the beach
With courage not at lack.

There is no place for doubt
No time to fear oneself
Every little meager thought
Placed high upon the shelf

I must be strong, I must be brave
I must be the guiding star
For these men would follow me
To any war, near or far

All eyes turn to me
No quiver, no trembling thought.
They look to me as a leader,
With all that I have been taught.

The ways of war, the ways of death
Of fighting, thick and thin
A battle must be worth fighting
And my only thought, to win.

I raise my blade up high
Proud voices rise to meet
I know that with this command
Death's visage they may greet.

It is my duty to keep them
From paying the butcher's bill
So I must be the first
to make every precious kill.

Some may judge me for my ways
The ways not of the Light
And then I will always tell them
I was bred only to fight.

I am a soldier, I am a hunter
A dark, savage tribal man
And when they need their battles won
I fight them as only I can.

Yet every bone within me
Speaks to the Force at will
I find my mindscape tranquil
And then my heart grows still.

I will protect the innocent
and those that I hold dear.
They call me the Titan
and I shall know no fear.

Battle Pain
By Kaira Rohana 10057

Sickeningly sweet smells
Assault my senses
Rips within the force
Send waves of agony
Though my body

The street before me
Lay riddled with death
My body betrays me
Fall on my knees

Tears steams as the pain
Rips apart my soul
How can we do this?
Jedi should not cause such pain

Over my head
Boom, Boom, Boom
More death
More misery
More and more

Jedi I am
Power to heal
Power to change
Power to love

To my feet
Push though pain.
Before my eyes
Life still breathes

Needed in this war
Is rejuvenation
Rebuild, Mend, restore
Reach out to the force

Though the battle
My purpose is found
To sooth and attend
Those who need it most
