The TIE/D Defender is a 9.2-meter long Starfighter designed as a multirole starfighter to be fast, well-armed, and capable of operating independently of the fleet via hyperspace travel on a wide range of missions. Hyperdrive capable, this vessel has exceptional maneuverability and speed, with average armor and heavy shielding. It is an excellent all-around starfighter with advanced sensors and a high-capacity solar ionization reactor. Known more commonly as the "TIE Defender", it was the pinnacle of Imperial starfighter design in its time and one of the most advanced TIE designs ever built, seeing only brief deployment due to cost and other political factors.
