The Varactyl is a giant reptavian with brilliantly colored scales and plumage. They were herbivorous natives of Utapau. Incredibly obedient and loyal as mounts, these creatures were able to move at speed across uneven and greatly sloped terrain. Their plumage ran a spectrum of blue and greens and could grow to lengths of nearly 15 meters.
Manu is wild by nature, but has had its behavior modified to accept the presence of humanoids by an intervention. It is trained against its wild instincts to accept humanoids. As creature handling goes up, a member can better empathize, train, and manage this creature's behavior. Untrained (+0), this creature will do whatever it wants and one would be helpless to understand why, with its natural disposition taking over. As creature handling skills improve, a member can understand, care for, and better influence this creature with full control achieved with mastery (+5) of creature handling.
Manu is of a larger than usual size for a Varactyl, with a much stockier build, shorter neck and more muscle mass than most other Varactyls. Old for a Varactyl, Manu's scales are green in colour and possess some scarring, while Manu's plumage fades from turquoise to teal, further from the skin. Its beak surrounds two sockets containing red-brown eyes, and its nails are often overgrown.
Manu is of a stockier build than most Varactyl, affording him greater strength than most of his kind. However, his old age lends to decreased mobility and a battle-scarred exterior that often causes discomfort. However, he does not object to being ridden into battle, having outlived his dominance as a pack Alpha.
Once the Alpha of his own pack, Manu has outlived his superiority, but still retains the respect of his peers. Manu no longer falls into the typical “Alpha” nature, which made them amiably agreeable, but whose seniority commands deference in the absence of one. As a result, he is distanced from his former pack and often keeps to himself, basking on an isolated rock or seeking the nearest stream.
