The Dark Trooper Droid is a large humanoid-shaped Combat Droid of Imperial design. They are primarily covered in black and silver plating, with red photoreceptors. Dark Troopers are immensely strong, have thick armor able to withstand blaster fire, and have a rocket booster installed on the base of each foot. Their necks are unarmored. Moff Gideon's Imperial Remnant was known to deploy droids of this type.
K9-RN "Kern" has developed a personality focused around the superiority of droids. As a result, K9-RN "Kern" will often question any orders it receives and will not hesitate to present its own alternatives. While still capable of following orders as directed, K9-RN "Kern" will not comply without at least a partial debate.
K9-RN "Kern" has had every external component painted black as night, with attempts to minimize the brightness of external lights and features. This allows this Dark Trooper Droid to more easily blend into the shadows and darkness unseen.
K9-RN "Kern" has been modified with an experimental shield generator inside its chassis, allowing this Dark Trooper Droid to absorb 3-5 direct hits from a blaster or bladed weapon before taking damage. This shield is not lightsaber resistant.
A tactical jammer has been installed into the chassis of this Dark Trooper Droid, allowing it to jam nearby sensor sweeps and render itself invisible to these searches.
This Dark Trooper Droid has been reinforced with an experimental layer of additional armor plating, providing K9-RN "Kern" unmatched durability compared to a standard Dark Trooper Droid.
