Primary reason

Though he recently had to step down as Quaestor of House Wren Kanal was and still is a beacon of activity in Clan Vizsla. This can be seen from the 7263 medal XP he has accumulated since his last award. Aside from that he was busy in the behind-the-scenes running of not just House Wren but the clan as a whole working on various projects. Most notable is the creation of the Endura wiki page. Where he has always shined however is his helping with the clan story arcs. Whether developing the storyboard or the characters inside it Kanal is as talented an individual as I have seen at being able to give me far-reaching stories practically at the drop of the hat. A prime example of this was his Clan-wide event in March that finished up the World Between Worlds story arc we started in 2022.

Additional reasons

Kanal has run 47 trivia events across his time as M:HM and Quizmaster. The basic task of developing content and submitting results for placement is already covered by site-based XP. However, if it were a matter of simply running two competitions a week, we wouldn't have created a new position specific for Kanal. Since taking on the trivia position, he's had to identify days and times that worked for an international, intergeneration audience, experiment with a variety of quiz settings his participants don't even realize exist, deal with multiple developer-end issues with the bot, and become one of the very few consistent and effective users of Discord's events feature on our server.

That was long, tedious process of trial and error. However, it paid off to the tune of, by my count, 1091 comp entries. Kanal grew participation from a dozen members on a good day to consistently pulling in 30 members, sometimes as many as 36. We have three clans with 30 members or fewer, five with fewer than 36, and that's counting roster dead weight. This would be remarkable enough except you need to remember that this usually takes place within a fifteen minute window. When was the last time we had that many members gaming together at once? Or doing anything else together at once?

Part of the appeal is that Kanal does not simply preprogram quizzes and then amble in later to record participation. He personally kicks it off and sits in chat as an MC and hype man. He does it at a timeslot that is personally burdensome and inconvenient because that's the timeslot he's found works for his participants. That's the kind of interaction, between organizer and participant and between the participants themselves, that builds and maintains communities. It is not optional if we want the Brotherhood to continue to exist, whether it takes the form of trivia or not.

As a participant myself, I can say that from the outside looking in, his job looks... trivial. As someone who's stepped into his shoes a few times, I can say it is deceptively difficult and a lot more work than it looks. He has my sincere thanks for stepping up.

In the last four months, Kanal has served as the club's first Trivia Tribune and run 24 trivia events. He's been very reliable in the role, ensuring that trivia is run regularly and using an interesting variety of topics to keep it from becoming stale.
