Aul Celsus is a tall, lean human with a moderate, but solid muscle mass. His arms are slightly longer than would be proportional to his height. Celsus has a light skin tone, dark wavy hair and a short beard with the beginnings of gray speckled throughout. A 2.5 cm scar runs over Celsus' right eyebrow. His eyes are a dark brown, nearly black and have a constant look of inquisitiveness.
When Aul Celsus does things, he makes sure everything is done correctly, no matter how long it takes. This means there are frequent delays in Aul Celsus's work, but it's usually done right, at least.
Aul Celsus's life is filled with training and learning for all sorts of situations, from the mind-numbingly normal to the utterly bizarre. As such, Aul Celsus has developed into a rather resourceful individual. This has made Aul Celsus a mix of academic and scholar, always with something to offer to any discussion. However, knowledge and training does not always translate well to the tense environment of the battlefield, and no amount of textbooks can prepare one for reality...
Aul Celsus tells it like he sees it, when he thinks it; and he doesn't try to sugar coat what he says.
Aul Celsus is a lateral thinker, and when he encounters problems or dilemmas, he is very good at improvising and coming up with alternative solutions. This allows Aul Celsus to find ways out of situations others might give up on. While these solutions are often not so obvious to others, Aul Celsus can typically explain and lead others through his plan...as long as they are patient and willing enough to trust him outside thinking.
Through careful study and dedication to isolated martial-combat, Aul Celsus has turned the act of dueling into an art form. A keen eye and attention to detail allows him the ability to learn their opponent's idiosyncrasies while fighting. Aul Celsus then uses his own skills to capitalize on the opponent's weakness. Because of this calculated approach to isolated duels, Aul Celsus has a harder time taking on multiple opponents at once at higher skill levels.
While Aul isn't a classic "go for the throat" warrior, he's also not as justice-minded as he once was. Aul's experience and growth in the Brotherhood and gathered along in his travels have left him hardened and distant. He finds combat a distraction and looks for any opportunity to incapacitate or, if need be, dispatch his opponent as quickly as possible. Aul's impatience with combat and desire to hastily end a fight prevents him from pursuing an opponent willing to disengage. On more than one occasion, this tendency has opened Aul up to an attack with his back turned.
