At one point in time, Appius Wight believed the Mandalorian code to be more a rough guide than a set of strict rules to follow. This is no longer the case.

Now, he follows the tenants of the Resol'nare vigilantly, as he understands it as the way of life from which he came. He wears the armor, speaks the language, contributes to his aliit's welfare, answers the call of the Manda'lor when required. He swears to protect himself, as well as raise his children as Mandalorians now that he is a father, and above all else, protect his family.

Unfortunately, this dedication to his family and his code of honour can lead to him being manipulated by those that can take advantage of it.

Appius was raised as a Mandalorian by his aliit, but he was trained as a Jedi by his father before him. As such, Appius is a mishmash of Mandalorian culture and heritage mixed with Jedi fighting styles. A strange combination, but one that has proven effective for Appius in the past, and is something he wears as a badge of honour.

Unfortunately, he does often get judgement from more stubborn, traditionalist Mandalorians that rigidly beleive Mandalorians should fight a certain way. Appius is more open-minded in that regard, and thus can be criticised because of it.

The destruction of his aliit sent Appius into a downward spiral that resulted in his turn to the Dark Side, believing he was destined to be alone in a galaxy that conspired against him.

That changed when he met Ankira Irr. She became the first ray of light he had experienced in a long time. He became inspired by her kindness and her tenacity, she helped him rediscover who he was and he came to admire and love her, calling her ner cyare.

The old Appius comes to the surface when he's around her. The same kind, gentle being he was before the destruction of his aliit. Time around those he cares for has pulled him out of the Dark Side and into the Grey. However, old wounds and trauma linger at the back of his mind, vulnerable to be opened by those who know what to say or do.

"From ashes, we rise."

That was the saying of Appius' old Mandalorian Clan, and it's a saying that he has taken to heart in his everyday life to remember them by.

Appius wears his heart on his sleeves and rarely, if ever, hides his emotions. He seldom plans ahead, and often says the first thing that comes to his mind. Sometimes, he can be calm, and at other times angry, but he usually means well. He's often caught with a smile on his face, a joke, and a handful of wit in his words for those willing to listen.

However, Appius is a reserved and introverted individual. Tragedy has struck this Mandalorian on more than one occasion. The loss of his family created wounds that are hard to heal. As a result, he has a hard time trusting those he meets until he gets to know them better.

In the event Appius has to fight close range and can't use his Force powers, he will use his mastery of Soresu to defend himself, incorporating techniques from Sliding Hands to attempt to unbalance, frustrate, and tire his opponents. Through Dun Möch-ing, Appius tries to goad his opponent into making a mistake by hurling insults ranging from making fun of their use of a lightsaber form, to questioning their entire belief system.

From whatever mistakes happen, Sokan then gives Appius the means to use the environment, and search for an opportunity to gain distance and use his Force powers again, or if need be, strike his enemy down.

However, this style of fighting is purely defensive. If an opponent is able to be aggressive enough, ignore his taunting, or has superior stamina, then Appius simply delays the inevitable and it's only a matter of time before he makes a mistake.

There's a reason he is known as "Zappius".

In combat, Appius' powers in the Force is his first line of attack and defence, even before drawing his lightsaber.

His bag of tricks include Telekinesis, which he uses to try to push, pull, and choke his enemies. Blinding is used to attempt to catch his enemies off guard and obscure their vision, creating openings. However, Force Lightning is this Sorcerer's bread and butter, and is Appius' go too attack in most situations that allow it, earning him his namesake.

However, Appius' reliance on the Force leaves him extremely vulnerable should his connection to it be severed unexpectedly. He also doesn't have unlimited reserves, and if fights drag on for too long, he can find himself fatigued, giving his opponent ample opportunities and openings.
