Sera's youth is obvious just from looking at her. Though perfectly symetrical and evenly placed, her facial features are very often split by a pointy-toothed grin, set under a pair of bright-blue, light-filled eyes. Her skin, uncharacteristically fair for a desert-dwelling zabrak, is smooth and unlined, save for a small, barely noticeable scar on the underside of her chin. She keeps her horns immaculate, filed to keen needle points, and her scalp is shaved clean to off her bony crown.
Sera has a tight, compact build, a feature accentuated by her diminutive height. Her musculature is toned and incredibly well defined, adding up to a creature of smooth curves and angles, with a high-tensile, wiry strength. She might be tiny, but Sera looks more pantherine than puny or weak.
As with all Zabraki, Sera’s tattooing is full-body, and totally unique to her own person. Her pattern is swirling, symmetrical, and smooth, in an even, dark maroon shade. They symbolize perseverance, to the point of straight stubbornness, and Sera wears them with the greatest pride. Like many Zabraki, she also sports a variety of light scarring. One, a perfectly circular gunshot wound just above her navel, she has borne since she was a child, so long that it was worked into the pattern of her tattoos. Since coming to Arcona, she has picked up other marks; an ugly saber burn on her left thigh, and another smaller burn over her right collarbone. A more recent scar crosses her face, cutting downward diagonally from her left eyebrow over the bridge of her nose, before finally hooking down over her right cheek.
There are stubborn people, pigheaded people, strong willed people.. and then there is Sera Kaern. Once committed to something, whether it be a person, a mission, or an ideal, she will not back down, as long as she is able. Under torture or duress, she will persevere, even when it is foolish, and even when her life is on the line. Pain is temporary, after all, but honor is forever.
There is nothing more important to Sera than the bonds that she shares with others. Her devotion runs deep; to her brother, to her tribe, and to the family that she will find beyond Iridonia. She is willing to give her very blood for them, to struggle alongside them, to bear their crosses, and put her own life on the line to spare theirs; one could not ask for a better friend.
Unfortunately, her trust is not difficult to earn. Open, naive, and given to thinking the best of people, her confidence is bought cheaply, and difficult to lose. Her love for others, much like herself, is a stubborn sort of thing; even when shown the very worst of the worst, the heart of darkness, Sera will choose love. She will always choose to give a second chance... even when all the chances have run out.
Despite a galaxy of science, discovery, and power totally beyond her imagining, Sera steadfastly sticks to her simple tribal beliefs. She venerates her Ancestors as sources of power and wisdom, and credits them with the "gift" of her ability in the Force. Easy to please, they hold one thing above all else: honor. Derived from centuries of tradition, zabraki honor impairs her to treat others with kindness, mercy, and empathy. It emphasizes balance, in all aspects of life; a hunter must never take more than their fair-share, a merchant should never charge more than they are owed, and revenge, though often just, must be kept in check, must never go beyond what is deserved.
In truth, the faith is naive. Honor leaves a warrior vulnerable, open to those who are totally without. One day, it'll probably get Sera killed. Considering those around her in the brotherhood...that day may be soon.
Sera is an emotional creature, prone to staccato shifts between periods of bright, effervescent happiness, and low-points of deep depression. Simply put; she's young, barely more than a teenager, immature, and totally uninsulated emotionally. Thankfully, the brighter side of her soul is the one most oft reflected by her outward demeanor. Full of impish grins and salacious humor, this side of her thrives among casual friends, close confidantes, and high-proof alcohol. It also leads her to make rash decisions, most notably in who's bed she decides to share. Zabraki society is notably open about such things, but with one as high-strung as herself, and with her fear of losing others, problems are inevitable.
This leads us to the other side of the coin; for a woman of such high hopes and lofty beliefs, the fall to grief can be crippling. It hasn't happened yet... but it's bound to come eventually.
Sera has always believed that the most important part of a hand to hand engagement is unpredictability; a grandmaster of any art won't remain that way for long if they fall into routine in their fighting. So, training with her brother, she developed her own unique fighting style; an intense combination of K'thri, the traditional zabraki martial art, and Mandalorian core. This kind of fighting strips the ordinarily flashy acrobatics seen in many K'thri forms, and replaces them with the deliberate, brutal aggression favored by the Mandos. The result places great focus on extremely harsh, rapid flurries of blows, meant to overwhelm an opponents defenses, before finishing them with devastating kicks. It is an effective technique; unfortunately, it doesn't leave much room for defense. Constant attack must be maintained for it to work properly.
Sera's self-preservation instinct has been defective since the day she was born. Call it stupidity, call it arrogance, call it whatever you want, she's never been swayed by fear. It isn't that she's never known terror, or panic: she's just never let it dissuade her from fighting on, and on, until victory is pulled from the jaws of death.
Sera's blaise reaction to the horrors of the galaxy has its ups and downs. On the one hand, she's remarkably difficult to intimidate, her morale against all odds Faced with tactics and illusions of terror, she won't back down; she'll kick harder. But, put up against a Sith lord or raging-rancor, something totally beyond her abilities, her tactics wont change; she would charge into battle regardless, spirit unwavering, wisdom disregarded. When the life of a friend is on the line, she'll attack even more recklessly; through hell or high water.
