Jac Cotelin is past his prime, showing signs of his age and the weathered toll of battle. The eldest of the Grand Masters still has many of the physical traits that once defined him, but it is clear that he no longer commands the physical presence of his youth.
Cotelin is a broad-shouldered man, once extremely muscular, but now simply fit. He tempers his body to its extremes, but there is only so much that can be accomplished in the seventh decade of a human life. He is a good height for a human male, nearly two meters tall and always standing to his full height. The former Dark Lord carries himself in the fashion of the military he came from; his stature is extraordinary and makes him stand out in a pack.
Cotelin's skin is a deep tan, showing signs of wrinkles with age. His body is scarred; slash mark and scorches adorn him like badges of honor, telling a story of his life of war and struggle. His face is untouched by the marring, but not untouched by age. Cotelin has a defined jaw and dark brown, piercing eyes. He is known for his facial expressions. Jac can look as grim as Eos on the day of the split, or as bright as the rebels on the day the Emperor died. It is his smile that makes the distinction, with careful inclinations added through his brow. When smiling, the entire face of Jac Cotelin lifts and he looks years younger. This reverses completely when he is angered; dimples turn to wrinkles and the brow tightens, making Jac look fearsome to all. These days, the signs of age show clearly; there are lines along Cotelin's eyes and forehead that show his advance years.
Cotelin wears his brown hair short, keeping with the norm that was from his years in the Imperial Navy. Jac normally chooses to discard his formal robes for the more form fitting suit that was a gift received when he was in his first term as Grand Master. The suit is black and sleeveless with the vest lined with gold to match his rank. The actual formal robes of the Grand Master do come out occasionally, though there are few occasions these days. Although he can be a menacing figure or high-brow emissary for the Brotherhood , those closest to Cotelin typically see him relaxed, smiling and informal.
Cotelin is the only member of the Brotherhood that has ever been awarded two Golden Lightsabers. As such, those are the weapons of choice for the Grand Master. The first saber, awarded to Jac by his former apprentice, Lord Khyron, is adorned by the red Sith crystal at the bottom of the hilt. The other, awarded to Jac after his second term as Grand Master, carried the blue stone of the Obelisk.
Occasionally, Cotelin will conceal one of his original, hand-crafted sabers. The dark blue blade has been modified from it's original form to have a thinner blade and casing, as well as to carry a scaling blade-emitter. This allows Jac to shorten the blade for the frequent occasion of when he uses it in his off-hand and keep it well concealed under his vest when he does not.
Cotelin rarely uses any projectile weapons, but when he does he prefers high-power and close range weapons, such as flechette launchers.
Cotelin is often at the center of large developments in the Brotherhood and in his unit. Although he has largely given up on official leadership roles, Cotelin still stands tall as the leader in most of his important endeavors. In doing so, he makes tasks look easy and inconsequential. He has an ability to organize ideas, create discussion, and drive a project unlike most. And generally, the outcomes of Cotelin's projects far exceed expectations and are beyond the ability of his peers. Unfortunately, the draws on Cotelin's time are many, and these days it is a rare project that gets Jac's full attention.
Those who know Cotelin the best often see him relaxed and in an enjoyable mood. But Cotelin's demeanor varies greatly depending on the company he keeps. When he is not around those he trusts, Cotelin is guarded and serious. He holds himself as a Grand Master should, treating with others as is required by his rank. It is this same serious demeanor that Cotelin carries into combat. He understands that there is a time to be lighthearted, and a time to be serious about work. And when that work involves the death of an enemy, one does not want to be on the opposite end of Cotelin's seriousness.
There are few Grand Masters that have shown the devout loyalty that Cotelin has shown to the Brotherhood. He puts the interests of the Brotherhood beyond his own interests and is always optimistic to the future. He is just as loyal to Taldryan as he is to the Brotherhood. His home away from the Dark Council is of utmost important to him. However, the optimism of Cotelin can often be blind, and for all of his wisdom, sometimes he can be faulted for failing to account for his lack of a healthy pessimism.
Before the Exodus, Cotelin was the Emissary of the Brotherhood, charged with uniting the clans under common causes. The role was created for him because of Cotelin's unique ability to draw alliances. Jac is able to empathize with his counterparts and build consensus among groups. He has allies and friends in places that most would not expect, and it is largely for that reason that Cotelin is still alive and still respected.
Cotelin is the oldest member of the Dark Brotherhood, and not through mere chance. The Grand Master has lived where others have perished largely because of his approach to combat. While destruction of an enemy is key, survival is always the first goal. Cotelin survives not through cowardice and long-range attacks, but rather through slow-playing his opponents while he learns their capabilities and studies their weaknesses. Often he will allow his enemies to expend themselves at the Grand Master's strong defenses, and then take the advantage when the time is right. And when the time is right, there is no denying Cotelin's ferocity. Once he makes his move, Jac will utterly destroy those that oppose him, overwhelming them with everything he can muster.
Jac Cotelin has the ability to overwhelm opponents with the sheer power of the Force. However, he understands that there is a limit to his powers, and without maintaining his reserves, he may find himself lacking in a dire situation. Moreover, Cotelin understands that he is no longer at the top of his physique, though he is still strong in his own right. As a result, Cotelin will find creative ways to combine his powers and physical attacks to maximize his effectiveness.
