Primary reason

Since his last recogntion, Terran “Vic” Koul has been a steady pillar of Arcona’s Arconae, serving the Clan as Aedile, Quaestor, and Proconsul for a total of over two years. In addition, his service has been to the Club as a whole, with over 5(!) years of Magistrate work for the Senechal. He has worked tirelessly for our benefit, but also as an individual, with 25 (co-)organized comps and 83 participations, for which he’s earned 843 Clusters of varying kinds and a palette of Crescents as well.

As an extra note, it should be mentioned that most of the organized competitions came from running two episodes of Clan Arcona’s “Sins of the Past” -storyline. In addition to the mere competitions themselves, he was thus responsible for organizing the plotline and co(ercing)-ordinating the efforts of multiple writers to craft a singular storyline.

Whenever Arcona has gone to War, Terran has been there for us, earning 39 Seals from the last four Vendettas alongside 4 Novae for his stellar performance. It thus cannot be said he hasn’t been giving it his all when the Clan needed him the most.

During the past while that he has been working for Arcona, Vic has truly been a fundamental force for the Clan, and especially House Qel-Droma. For a fact, we still use the Activity Tracking sheet which he pioneered, helping us to keep track of our members’ activities and working them towards Awards and Promotions.

Further, he drafted a training document (Responsibilities and Expectations for Summit Positions) to help with the teaching of new leaders, aiding in the immensely important task of legacy planning. He was also creating a Rollmaster’s Guide, further showing his commitment to institutionalizing formal leadership documentation, even if the position is of now getting mothballed.

In his tasks in Clan leadership, Terran has offered invaluable insight in forming the AEF/DDF into its current shape, his deep knowledge in all things Fleet related having always been at our disposal. His leadership style encouraged subordinate activity and responsibility, giving independent tasks for people to use their own creativity to accomplish—in accordance with the best tenants of delegation. Indeed, he spent the last six months of his tenure as Quaestor making sure his Aedile and BTL were up to the task of replacing him, showing his dedication to longevity of both House and Clan.

In the trenches of the Wiki Wars, he oversaw the Arcona Article Improvement Program. There, he oversaw, coordinated, approved and made suggestions on everything Arcona wiki related for close to a year and a half. As a massive part of the previous, he revised and organized the Clan's personal timeline, summarizing major events and laid them out for ease of access to the newbies. The sheer amount of long-beard consulting, email un-dusting, and lost holocron hunting that was required for this task beggars belief…

For all of these efforts, and the daily ones which so often slip through the cracks, I am honored to recommend Terran be awarded an Amethyst Khukuri as recognition of his service to House and Clan.

Additional reasons

Terran Koul truly is an asset to Arcona. I have had the opportunity to work closely with him during my tenure as BTL of Voidbreaker, and I can say unequivocally that he has a leadership style that is unlike any other. He is very knowledgeable, and does not hesitate to share his insight with others. He readily provides support and guidance to those who are new to leadership. He is in many ways an excellent project manager. It is for these reasons that I am happy to lend my voice in support that Terran be awarded the Amethyst Kukri! Congratulations, Terran!

Terran Koul, better known as Vic to some, has been a backbone of the Arconan summit and Arcona as a whole for, and I mean this quite literally, the last decade (2011). I only get to talk about a small part of that service, but it is still an important and vital part.

Vic was always at hand and on duty to help, even before I was an Aedile and when I became Consul. While it may be hard to define what an "advisor" is in metric, I can tell anyone that it involved discussing every topic that ever came up to the summit, offering solutions and playing devil's advocate to every problem, email chains in the double and triple digits and a boggling number of spreadsheets and midnight debates about spending credits and the merits of ship types and fleet allocations that I knew nothing about-- and a lot of other things. As Consul, I knew I could delegate any task involving data management or tool building to Vic and it would be done right away with more efficiency than almost anyone else could manage. He built activity trackers and award calculators and report templates. He taught myself and other rotating generations of the summit over the years wiki coding and Markdown even before the courses and often in place of the courses (because it's easier to ask). Most wiki tables on Arcona pages came from him.

As Quaestor during my Consulship, he cared for Qel-Droma closely and built out not only tools and updated wikis for them, refreshing a lot of old material and building from the ground up with his leadership team, but also tackled the Clan-wide plotlines and competitions with me in Sins of the Past, which others can also detail. This was a huge undertaking. He plotted out a year out of Clan plot by himself, created the Muun Species proposal in order to provide the CS for one of the first villains, created and ran those completions, created Star Wars story crawls for each sub competition and the main event (you can still watch them playing in gif format on Discourse), posted all the plot updates, and made sure all members who contributed to the fictions were credited and awarded bonus CIs for it.

Besides this, he also revised and updated the Arcona Fiction Timeline, wrote our Leadership guidelines, managed fleet planning as aforementioned, and stepped up to Proconsul after I retired to continue serving. He's done everything-- proofed every fiction or post, listened to every rant, been the voice of reason that kept our summit from going off the rails entirely at the worst of times. These are not reflected in numbers, but they are no less critical. It is why he is a title holder: because few have given so much for the Clan in service as he has.

Thank you for always being there and having our backs, Vic. For loving us more than our faults.
