"What is done here will live forever." - Okemi
We have conquered the One Sith. Laid waste to their holdings. What they once had now belongs to us. Some remnants remain, but we have cut deep and will cut deeper still...
I have worked with each unit leader to get your latest Armed Forces Requisitions done. Everyone should be tracking and in possession of their latest sheet and toys.
That said, we've talked about updating what you can purchase on the Armed Forces sheet for a while. Updating the list of choices will be one of my next major tasks. What I'll be doing in the near future is reaching out to the Consuls and Quaestors and getting a list from them of thei Top 5 most-wanted choices. I will do my best to make what you guys want work with everything we have.
We'll be looking to have this ready following Great Jedi War XI so you all can spend your newly earned points on some never before offered equipment.
I have sent out the latest purchasing sheet and materials to our hard-hitting Consuls and Quaestors. They've likely let you know that they, along with their Subject Matter Experts (SME's) have either completed their adjustments to your forces or are soon to do so. A few of you have put together some really nice fleets and strike packages. Well done. Hope you guys enjoy this process as much as I do. This process should be completed shortly as I'm just waiting to hear back from a few units.
We've done three of these purchasing and sales events, formerly called "resets," over the last year. In the club's history, I think this opportunity has come around twice. I wanted to open this process up and make it more dynamic and frequent so you all don't get stuck with the "sins of the past." This also lets us all "play" a bit more with our "toys."
Hopefully we've accomplished that and you all are more comfortable with your Orders of Battle (OOB).
As I explained in the comments here, the Epilogue Event is a separate Vendetta that will allow us to wrap up the Dark Crusade. It will award Novae, Hero Titles, Armed Forces Points, and First Clan/House, etc. This will give everyone a fresh opportunity to show their dominance and teamwork. Didn't place as highly as you wanted as a member or unit in the Dark Crusade? Here's your chance at redemption. Show the club what you've got and that you are indeed a force to be reckoned with.
Following the Epilogue, we'll be hosting Great Jedi War XI sometime this summer. This event will cap the war against the One Sith with the ultimate showdown taking place on Korriban.
Part of our fictional identity are the Titles our characters earn along the way. Whether it's a Clan name or Hero Title, there are quite a few and they are important and so prominently displayed on member dossiers. But some are obscure and a new member might not know what they mean.
To help this we made all the Titles on your dossier links to the wiki. The idea is that they link to the corresponding wiki article. Some, like Sith Lord, do this already. For the rest, we'll be adding redirects soon that will link them to the proper wiki pages.
Another change regarding Titles:
What I wanted to do was have equality across the board for all club-wide, Dark Council sponsored events. It's damned hard work to beat the entire club at something with all the talent floating around so people should get that credit. So we've enabled the following events to award Hero Titles!
So if you placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in one of these, and can offer the MAA office some proof (wiki article, award event, etc. - just like we did with credit history), they will get you set up. Obviously things like Feuds between units, intra-unit events, and other non DC sponsored events don't count same as before.
We've talked a lot about our recruitment efforts. One of the things I wanted to address was getting a little more reward out to our Masters who take on new members and help guide them through the club. So what we're doing is changing the Scroll of Foundation to be awarded solely for Shadow Academy activity. We're creating a new Scroll, specific to mentoring students, that will carry with it a Prestige value. This is our way to pay back those who are helping renew the life-blood of the club through our new members.
Some names we've tossed around for the new scroll:
Scroll of the Master Master's Scroll Scroll of Tutelage Scroll of Hegemony Scroll of Guidance
Have a suggestion? Let's hear it.
It was just an email, I swear.
Recently I sent all our badass Consuls and Quaestors an email detailing some of the stuff I'm working on and other bits of news and happenings. This is an effort on my part to let you know what I'm working on because I don't like "secrety projects." I'd much prefer you tell me my idea is stupid before I get too far down the road with it.
So for leaders, feel free to share that stuff with your members. Nothing Antei-shattering in there, just odds and ends and ideas. Feedback was pretty positive so far.
Several reports ago I mentioned creating and maintaining a project matrix so all our members can track what we're up to. Initially I planned for this to be a wiki page we'd update with what we were working on. James suggested Trello however and we're piloting this thing to see how it goes and how we all like using it.
Let us know how you like this medium as well. Updates will occur as we get more into using the service.
Dark Jedi Brotherhood Trello Board
From here on, all Vendetta-level events will have automated Leader Boards! This was something James and I worked on and I think it came out pretty well. When Novae are awarded for Vendettas, leader boards are "automagically" generated with the member's avatar, name, unit, and number of each Novae earned.
This is an example image from James' dev machine. Subject to change. And the board will not resolve placement by 4th and 5th finishes as in the example below. This was just the only screenshot I had from when we were tweaking it. The board will determine placement the same way my hand-done spreadsheets did: Most Gold, then Silver, then Bronze.
Kalen recently awarded Hero Titles for the Dark Crusade. Congratulations again to Jac, Selika, and Marick! Go check out those hard-to-get titles on their dossiers.
Here I shamelessly note my alma mater won the BCS National Championship in College Football. Go 'Noles!

Scroll of Parenthood, Scroll of the Newb Watcher, and I'll think of some more.
On a more serious line, is this something that starts here and goes forward, or would there be a way to make it retroactive?
It will be retroactive. Solari has already gone through and identified which scrolls need to be converted. So those changes are forthcoming. Thanks for asking that, brother.
That's a fine lookin' leaderboard right there.
When is Fading Light (roughly) expected to launch? Don't want to have any competitions overlapping...
February is the rough time frame. With everything else going on, I'd hazard late February.
I like Scroll of Tutelage and Scroll of Guidance but I throw one into the mix...Scroll of Preceptorship (or Preceptor)
Perhaps Scroll of the Preceptor?
I like your quotes, Raken.
Automated Leaderboards are sexy.
Scroll of Mastery
Scroll of Cultivation
Scroll of Guidance
Scroll of Enlightenment
Love the automagic leaderboard.
If I might make a suggestion though: having it rank by gold then silver then bronze could leave a person with 20 silvers and no gold behind someone with 1 gold and nothing else. That's not quite right.
I suggest that novae be given a point value: 10 for gold, 5 for silver, 3 for bronze. Or something like that. Total the scores for people and base the leaderboard on those scores.
Cheers, Jac
The idea of it, as was the leaderboard for the dark crusade, is to mimic the Olympic leaderboards, i.e. most golds wins.
Aye, I understand how it's being done and the connection to the Olympics. I've always felt the way the Olympics does it is wrong.
The way hero titles are awarded should be reevaluated. Units get points for Silver and Bronze novae; they aren't just tie breakers. The hero titles should be awarded in accordance with how scoring for the units is completed.
Going through the leaderboard, there are a few instances where the "gold is king" standard misplaces some people. For instance: Rathus of Taldryan has 4 gold and 1 silver for 5 total medals. That ranks him at #18. Coming in at #19 is Goat of CNS, who has 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze for a total of 12 medals.
To me, this ranking is skewed. Yes, Rathus has one more gold, but Goat ranked in seven more events and garnered a lot more points overall. Goat should be higher.
It didn't matter for the top 3 this time, but I can easily see a situation in which it would come up.
If there's a good reason for doing it as the Olympics does other than "the Olympics does it", then cool, I'd be happy to change my mind.
Why are we splitting up the Scroll of Foundation into two medals? We don't really need seperate medals for every single type of activity we do in the DB... if it's because you want masters to get more prestige points then just up the prestige value of the medal we already have?
Also we already have merit medals to reward people for doing these things, adding more scrolls would just make it harder to get a regular merit medal.
So people who get Scrolls of Foundation for things other than being a successful master get to majorly rid on the coat tails and also get more prestige?
Quicky maths: 2/3 of all events that awarded SoFs weren't for mentorship. Note that the actual number of scrolls is probably closer to 5/6 as the non-mentorship events are general multiple (i.e. SA staffer getting 5+ for the exams they have graded) and the mentorship ones are singular.
Another way of looking at it; take Ood. He has 26 SoFs and only 1 is for being a master. Up the prestige for mentors and instead of him getting a boost on one scroll, he gets it 26 times over.
Also, woo merit medals, everyone on the SA staff getting a DC or higher in four months time? :P
Hey, thanks for the comments.
The Leader Board works the way it does because it's based on victories and not points as Solari pointed out in the Olympic example. Second and Third place are not victories. They are losses. We're not married to one system though. We can certainly look at others.
We split the scrolls because SoF's are awarded for several different things. Training new members and Shadow Academy work among them. We wanted to emphasize and recognize the importance of this aspect of the club by associating Prestige with the achievement. Masters should certainly still be in line for merit medals as it relates to a body of work of mentoring new members. A new scroll or two for getting new members to DJK isn't going to hold that up. We have many, many different types of awards that recognize both general and specific types of activities. I don't think one more scroll category is going to break anything or make it harder to earn the other types of awards.
I appreciate the thoughts and interest, boys. We'll continue to do our best to evolve things, keep what works, and get rid of what doesn't.
@ New Scrolls : I didn't even realize we gave SoFs for grading courses until I looked it up on the Wiki. Given that fact, it makes a lot of sense to move the "Get someone to DJK" medal away from the "I graded SA courses." medal! Question: For those of us that were here before the Master/Apprentice program became a "real thing," but whom had clear mentors (e.g. Yacko, who gave me my first job and promoted me to DJK), can we request these medals for them if they're going to be worth something now? And what evidence would you guys need of that?
@ Leader Board : I get that coming in 2nd or 3rd isn't first, but if they were just losses, why award them Novae at all? Seems to dismissive to just call them losses. I guess it depends on one's feelings on the issue, but in this club, given the number of "group" vendetta events and the like, that a single gold should be greater than some amount of Silver and/or Bronze medals.
