There have been repeated inquiry's, lately, concerning the updating of Character Sheets during battles - here's the skinny: There is no official rule that says you can't do it. Some battles can last long enough that waiting is impractical, even becoming a disadvantage to some. I had looked into 'locking' CS's while battles were active, but for the above reason, that's not a good idea and it was dropped...so, you're on your own. We try to discourage it because it is very unethical when existing battles are taken into consideration, but in the end it's your call.

Sometimes the updates you make will help you in your upcoming battles, but harm you in existing ones - you run that risk. Your opponent may decide (when the battle starts) that the particular encounter is of some importance and may copy your 'current' stats - "just in case" (the smart folks use a screen shot and date it accordingly). We know when the CS's are updated - and in some cases; based on certain battles and a bit of reasonable assumption, why they were updated (i.e. in an important battle, like for a Feud or something: X's post could comment on Y's lack of speed; a quick check to Y's CS shows an equal stat; another quick check to see if Y's CS was updated shows it was mere hours after the post...duh) - but it's still not illegal. Yes, it should be - but I haven't (as of yet) figured out how to 'fix' it...all the possibilities (so far) hamper the combatant's stats for pending battles - it's a double edged sword.

Here's a possible scenario: you update your CS during a battle and start writing based on the new stats; your opponent keys in on it and, since they felt that the battle was important enough and screens the stats when you start, sends a staff member the 'unchanged' stats that you started the battle with - you won't get disqualified, but the battle will be rated based on the original stats which may result in a loss.

Your best bet, (if you absolutely have to update your CS while battles are running), is to stay true to the stats you began with. So, to emphatically conclude: There is no official 'rule' against updating your CS while you have battles running - we just discourage it, because we know what a pain waiting can be.
