_EDIT: You can discuss this issue HERE.
Modified Escort Shuttle Scribe: With the Vong Invasion behind us, and 27ABY quickly becoming history, The Dark Voice is striving to recover from the war. The Dark Voice has not escaped the tragedy of the conflict. Rebuilding a staff to fill the boots of fallen comrades, and rebuilding the communications network on which the Dark Voice is broadcast have not been easy tasks.
Secrecy is our new law, little did we care about our privacy in the past, now, any detail of our doings is hard to find. The changes, unfortunately, are reflected in the Dark Voice. Sadly, there are less details available, less items on which we can report without fear of our enemies intercepting them.
OOC: Issue 2, Volume 5 of the Dark Voice is here! DV Crescent Blowout Results, Rumors about a new medal, and some other juicy gossip fill this slightly smaller edition of the Dark Voice. And before we're yelled at for it, please remember the Dark Voice is the storyline and official "history" of the Dark Brotherhood. As part of my continued efforts to fulfill that mandate, this issue has some "unorthadox" items in it. Fictionally, there are less details. You'll see very few references to actual locations, instead, things are general, or "classified". There are some very blatent typos, these are also intentional. The Brotherhood is in a posture of "recovery" from a major war and conflict, and I'm attempting to show that a bit in this edition. It's smaller, theres less details, and it's filled with fluff, theres very little actual "content" about factual happenings - that's the idea. Next issue, look for a slightly more normal issue. For now, this is my attempt at an accurate historical reference. I hope you enjoy! - SBM Derev Niroth, DV Tribune_
You know, I'm not quite sure that DV is the official history of the Brotherhood. This is October, so the GJW is way past us and everyone is back to activity. Could it be the lack of effort, instead of intentional errors, that made this issue smaller and full of typos?
Indeed not. There are actually very few typos that I'm aware of - of course a few no doubt slipped by "accident", I purposefully typoed several things that came typo-free from the editor of the respective article.
As for size, I think the size of the issue speaks for itself. Obviously people are still recovering from the GJW, since this DV got less submissions then the last DV, despite offering 21 1st and 2nd level crescents for this issue (a far cry from what was offered in competition last time around). In fact, I anticipated that it would be a very small issue submission wise, hence why I created the DV Blowout Competition.
But no, there is not a "lack of effort". The staff can only write so many articles themselves (beyond the restraints of "time", you'd get bored if half of the articles were written by the same person. the same style and point of view can get tiresome quickly, not to mention it would look tacky to see the same person credited with articles over and over).
The DV relies heavily upon membership based submissions, and this issue we got about half of what we did last time. So, I think the GJW is still having an effect.
Fictionally, this is the first issue "after" the GJW. When a country gets wtfomgpwnz in a war, it does generally take more then 6 weeks to recover. Hell, im pretty sure theres plenty of countries still recovering from WWII.
Any other questions?
Yes, actually. There's a small inset in your publication insinuating a liaison of sorts between Lucius and Dismal - I'm guessing an allusion to their recently disciplined. Fair enough. However, I'm a little concerned that, fictionally speaking, they're portrayed as being disciplined by sarin not for being jackasses, but because of a possible relationship. I raise the issue in comments mainly because I'm not the only one that's offended that the reason they were punished, even fictionally and as a joke would be because of homosexual tendancies. if this is too much of a 'taboo' to raise on the comments page, where all members have access to, then quite frankly, the attitude of this club is wrong, and the accepting atmosphere it is reputed to possess is also fallacy. Perhaps in future articles, certain segments of society won't be picked out to be seen as a reason for being fired.
Food for thought.
Did the snippet in the Dark Voice say anything about homosexual tendancies? Hmm, no, don't think it does. And I didn't see any of you guys running to the hills drawing blood on Dismal and Lucius for attacking someone and actually allegding someone was engaged in homosexual activity.
But, you're the one who assumed the article referred to homosexual activity. Maybe it was a draw that Dismal and Lucius are actually gay (unlikely). Maybe it was a play on the fact that they were disciplined was for something that included homosexuallity and blatently insulting another member of this club (more likely). Maybe it was a combination of two completely unrelated events (the doings of two members, and an unrelated incident that happens to said members shortly there after) (also likely).
That's the good thing about a blurb in a publication with no byline. You'll never know. Frankly, everyone needs to grow up. Dismal and Lucius made headlines themselves and subjected themselves to a bit of negative publicity. It's funny, and neither of the parties are offended (I know, because both knew about it BEFORE it was published). As much as it pains me to say this, I was as many of you would've jumped to Halcyon's defense when someone actually attacked him with homsexuallity, as you do the guys who made the attack. Food for thought :)
Next.
And on that note, since this is turning into more of a discussion then the guidelines for the news page allows, lets move the discussion to the Forums.
