Hello all,

A little over 48 hours ago I nominated Kalan Amar, also known as Drac, for the position of Justicar and kicked off a 48 hour discussion period regarding the nomination with the Electorate. In the time since there has been some great discussion between the members of the Electorate and the nominee to help better understand what sort of Justicar he would be.

I am writing this public notice first, to state that I will shortly announce an end of discussions, and move to call for votes.

Second, I wanted to take any opportunity to publicly state what led me to the nomination. When I selected Bubba as my DGM, I did so knowing I would need to nominate a new Justicar, but not who that might be. I took it one decision at a time and soon was faced with exactly that. No clear answer. So I immediately began to logically approach it to decide who the best candidate would be for the sake of all the members.

I could envision the type of Justicar I would want, ideally. One who had a strong understanding of the Covenant and DJB law from day one. Who had experience upholding rules and regulations of the DJB, and had demonstrated an ability to do so free of bias and with careful consideration of the impacts and consequences. Someone who could partner with me in time of need, to minimize the drama and possible damage that CoJ proceedings can sometimes cause. To focus on the facts, on what's important, and come to what is rarely ideal but is the best decision possible given a situation. Who has demonstrated an ability to separate the emotion from a decision, and through careful consideration make the necessary calls, emails, decisions, to do what needs to be done. I found that person in Drac. I asked him a few questions regarding what I thought was important to me in the right person to take on the role, and he answered in a manner that made the decision clear to me. Those questions and answers are available in the discussion thread I started.

I believe that Drac, if confirmed, will be the ally that any member would want if faced with the need to apply justice per the Covenant. He was my choice for ally if the need came to help mitigate any issues I will undoubtedly face in the coming years as Grand Master. I implore you all to make the same considerations I did as you consider what needing a Justicar as a member might mean to you. While I also hope you never need the Justicar.
