Hello all,
Just over 48 hours ago I made the call for an official vote on my nomination of Kalan Amak (Drac) for the position of Justicar.
I want to open with the final results of that vote:
11 Yes Votes:
3 No Votes:
2 Abstained from Voting:
Justicar was a vacant vote due to Bubba holding multiple roles and was not part of the initial quorum leaving the Electorate at 16 voters. Confirmation required 3/4 of the votes or 12 votes, and as such was not successful. Failure to vote per the Covenant, or voting absent, does not reduce the required votes in the Covenant and is essentially a no vote.
The Covenant requires that I bring a candidate to the Electorate to consider as the next Justicar. So I will start my own process again to do just that now that this vote has concluded.
I plan to take a couple of weeks to do this. Both to give some time to this process after the vote that just occurred so we can enter the next discussion period free from any emotions, as time will definitely help. While also giving myself some time to assess potential candidates who are both available and willing, as well as qualified and capable of taking on the responsibilities of Justicar.
When I started my process to nominate a replacement Justicar, I was looking for someone with Dark Council experience, who had demonstrated both the application of DB policy and work with DB law. Someone who was unbiased and capable of protecting member's rights and administering fair justice. I'll take those same expectations to any future nominee for the role. The list of candidates who can be successful is already small but I will consider them all again.
I'll note that during the discussion and voting process for the latest nomination, not one elector expressed concern with Drac's technical qualifications, his reliability, or his integrity. The objecting Electors had subjected him to an "approachability" qualification to keep it concise and what that perception might do to confidence in the Chamber of Justice. The Justicar has not been traditionally evaluated on approachability, and it isn't something I intend to nominate a candidate based on. Yet any future candidate I approach now has to consider what application of this qualification might mean for them during the process of confirmation. I will however work to find the best candidate I can to serve as Justicar that has support from enough of the Electorate to be confirmed.
As a final word, I want to thank Drac for his willingness to serve as the Justicar of this organization, and for his time and patience during the discussion and voting that we just concluded. It validated all the reasons I nominated him for the role in the first place and confirms to me that I made the right choice in nominating him.
Regards,
Evant
