Dax Ryder is an older human man with blue eyes and graying hair. His short hair is cut neatly, and he keeps a carefully maintained salt-and-pepper beard. His nose is long and angular, and his high cheekbones and baggy eyes give him a tired, jaded appearance. A long, white scar runs down from his left cheek, down his neck, and almost to his sternum.
He has sallow, wrinkled, and bony frame which gives lie to the whipcord muscle underneath. His hands and feet are rough and calloused from long years of abuse. His right leg has been replaced with an obvious, exposed cybernetic, which has sustained significant cosmetic damage.
A tattoo on his left shoulder depicts an old Imperial military emblem.
Dax Ryder does not charge a high price because he has to pay for a life of luxury; he charges a high price because he knows that he is the best in the game and worth the credits. Those who do not know Dax Ryder will feel he is gouging them, but those who have seen him in action know that he always delivers. This bravado follows Dax Ryder around and builds on the success of completed jobs and can be off-putting to other Mercenaries that will try and lash back by pointing out his failures.
Dax Ryder has both been there and done that. he thinks he has seen every imaginable scenario of war and battle and survived it all, and that nothing can phase him. The daily grind has almost become too intolerable for Dax Ryder and they are prone to lash out at anyone who attempts to coerce them into another adventure.
Dax Ryder has a military background, and draws upon his experience to tackle the obstacles in his life. This makes him decisive, efficient, and fearless; provides him with a strong sense of duty and strength; which tends to influence his ability to fight and lead. However, a rigid mind is less compassionate towards individuals and less imaginative, and Dax Ryder sometimes risks appearing callous, relatable, or incapable of compromising.
Despite an aversion for physical confrontation, Dax Ryder has a quick-witted and sharp sense of humour, and never passes up the opportunity to make a quip or jibe about his situation, or to taunt his enemies. While some find Dax Ryder to be funny and likeable, others do not always respond so warmly, and occasionally Dax Ryder will get himself into more trouble than he thought when someone takes a joke the wrong way.
Dax Ryder has an uncanny knack for identifying traps and alerting others to them. Now, if only he could consistently do it BEFORE the trap goes off...
When it comes to a fight, some like to posture, some like to act tough, some like to dance around and go through all sorts of fancy footwork. Dax Ryder? Dax Ryder doesn't bother with exotic battle stances, intricate maneuvers, or super-secret tactics. Dax Ryder, when cornered into a fight, prefers the ancient technique of a good kick to the nuts. And if that won't work, either because the enemy is a woman or has balls of steel, Dax Ryder isn't beyond pulling a few more cheap tricks out of the bag. Granted, Dax Ryder won't be winning any medals for nobility or any prestige for a unique fighting style or a superb maneuver, but Dax Ryder will still be winning, the best and most dirty way he knows how.
