X-Wings, TIE Fighters, the Millennium Falcon. The starships in Star Wars are some of the most famous and captivating parts of the setting, so naturally you may be interested in acquiring and outfitting a starship of your very own. This course outlines the ships available to you, how you can get your hands on one, and your options for customizing them.
This course covers the five kinds of ship available for personal use. However, regardless of the category, each ship will have a description explaining its capabilities and armaments. The description will tell you if the ship has a hyperdrive, if it can accommodate an astromech droid, and if there is anything unusual about the power plant, sensors, or targeting systems. Additionally, it will rate the maneuverability, speed, hull strength/armoring, and shields (if present) on the following scale:
System | Worst | Best | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Maneuverability | Inferior | Poor | Average | Great | Exceptional |
Speed | Inferior | Poor | Average | Great | Exceptional |
Hull / Armoring | Limited | Light | Average | Heavy | Powerful |
Shields | Light | Average | Heavy | Powerful |
The item description will also cover the crew complement, cargo capacity, and anything else you would need to know about your vessel. It is assumed that the ship comes with any crew necessary to operate it.
Assault ships are typically ships with heavily offensive capabilities. They are the favorite ship type of bounty hunters, and generally are equipped with hyperdrive generators for a quick getaway when needed. Some have been known to be used as boarding ships, being strong enough to break through an enemy force’s defenses and drop off a small regiment of troops during space warfare.
Some famous examples of assault ships within the Star Wars universe include Boba Fett’s Slave I, Din Djarran’s Razor Crest, and Bo-Katan Kryze’s Gauntlet.
Other assault ships include the UT-60D U-wing, and the GAT-12 Skipray Blastboat.
Freighters are cargo ships, not combat ships. Like any ship they do have combat capabilities, but they are not generally built for speed or maneuverability. Freighters are large ships and capable of transporting a good number of passengers as well as cargo. They can also be transport haulers for ground forces and planetside artillery vehicles.
Although freighters tend not to be glamorous, Han Solo operated a Baleen-class Heavy Freighter known as The Eravana, which he used as a smuggling vessel and to transport goods such as rathtars.
There is not a wide selection of freighters, and they can be pricey, but if you are a smuggler or looking to run a cartel, a good freighter is paramount to your story. Check out our offerings, including the Baleen listed above, as well as the BFF-1 bulk freighter.
Like freighters, light freighters are transport ships, used to deliver or smuggle goods, both legal and illegal, across the galaxy. Unlike their larger counterparts, these ships were far more capable in regards to speed, armor, and defensive capabilities at the expense of cargo capacity. While freighters are not made for combat zones, light freighters will often find themselves in firefights, so their need to be viable in space combat make them some of the most popular and effective ships in the galaxy.
Arguably the most famous Star Wars vessel is the Millenium Falcon, a highly customized YT-1300 light freighter. Another ship you may recognize is the Ghost, a VCX-100 light freighter piloted by Hera Syndulla.
Aside from the two models listed above, the Brotherhood offers a wide range of available choices for your own smuggling masterpiece, including the Lancer-class pursuit craft or even the Ghtroc 720 light freighter.
Shuttles are the primary and best type of ship for personal and ground troop transportation. They are fast, maneuverable, and sturdy—and they need to be. Their purpose is to get in quickly, unload their troops, and get out without being destroyed so that they can later extract their cargo again. Many high ranking officials have their own personal shuttles built to ferry them wherever they were needed, even on the battlefield.
Padme Amidala used a J-type 327 Nubian starship as her royal starship while queen. Kylo Ren had an Upsilon-class command shuttle for personal transport. Han Solo, Chewbacca, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker used shuttle Tydirium, a stolen Lambda-class T-4a shuttle to sneak onto the forest moon of Endor.
Other shuttles include the CSS-1 Corellian Star Shuttle and an Omicron-class attack shuttle.
Our final type of starship is by no means our least diverse. Starfighters are the backbone of any space battle you’ve seen in Star Wars. Generally these are single-pilot, and sometimes single-astromech, war fighters with exceptional speed, maneuverability, and weapons systems. These are escort vehicles, and capital ships carry them by the squadrons. Bombers, interceptors, and fighters fall under this umbrella. The selection pool is vast, and finding the perfect starfighter for you is no easy task.
The famous starfighters in Star Wars are too numerous to count, including X-wings, Y-wings, A-wings, and the many variants of TIE fighters. We have many other starfighters available, including N-1 starfighters, Nssis-class Clawcraft, and even the Jedi Vector of the High Republic era. Choose wisely!
Within this section you will be introduced to the different ways in which you can acquire space vehicles for your character(s). Aside from rewards you can gain from completing your Journeyman journey in our club, there are shops where ships can be purchased with your hard earned credits.
The first time you visit the site after your promotion to JM4, you will be prompted to complete the Trial of Acquisition. In addition to offering you your first lightsaber, the Trial will give you a chance to obtain a free starship. You have three options. The Sheathipede-class Transport Shuttle is a basic shuttle, offering your character the ability to move about the galaxy at will, but is not very useful in a fight. The Star Commuter 2000 has similar capabilities; other than seating an additional two passengers, the only difference is cosmetic.
Finally, you may choose to take 10,000 credits instead of a ship. This is the same amount you would receive for selling your Sheathipede or Star Commuter. Before choosing this option, you may want to check Arx Starship Acquisitions to make sure that 10,000 credits is enough for you to afford a different ship.
From the Resources menu on the site’s navigation bar, select Item Stores and look for Arx Starship Acquisitions. Arx Starship Acquisitions is a starship dealer that sells a range of assault ships, starfighters, shuttles, and freighters for personal use! This shop is where you will spend your hard earned credits to purchase your character's vessels. There are over 130 different types of vehicles to choose from, ranging in prices of 10,000 to over 600,000 credits.
If at a later date you decide that you do not like or want your purchased ship anymore, you can sell it back to Arx Starship Acquisitions for its regular retail price.
If you’re looking for a particular type of starship but haven’t settled on a specific model, you can filter store inventory by Item Category.
The Celebration Store opens every year around May for May the 4th. The Regent may also open it at other times throughout the year. This store has a stock of limited edition goods that are available only from the Celebration Store. This includes rare and modified versions of existing ships. These ships are generally more expensive, but they are also superior to the stock models. The Regent will alert the DB membership to when and for how long the Celebration store will open.
As with ships bought from Arx Starship Acquisitions, these limited edition ships can be sold back to the stores at their regular retail price. But think carefully on it, because it may be a while before they become available again if you should regret the sale.
You have bought or earned your first ship…now what? Aside from writing your character flying the ship, roleplaying space battles, or displaying your ship on your character’s loadouts, what else is there to do? The answer: make this ship your own! There are a number of ways in which you can now customize your vessel to be a one of a kind item in your character's possession! This section will teach you just how to do that, and what tools are at your disposal.
Some ships come with a Cosmetic Aspect slot. These aspects do not change anything about the ship's functionality, and they do not alter its capability. They simply represent the physical and outward appearance of your vessel. Like with other aspects, any custom one must be approved by the Regent staff before they can be applied. For more details, see the Item Aspect Approval Policy.
There are, of course, pre-written aspects that you can use to describe the way your ship looks. These cover popular archetypes like battle scarring, chrome plating, or even mint conditioning. You can create a custom aspect for your ship as well, to give it an even more personal and unique touch.
Some ships have a Vehicle Modification Aspect slot. These aspects do alter a ship's functionality, but at an offsetting expense. Like Cosmetic Aspects, you can create a custom aspect that must be approved by the Regent staff. There are pre-written aspects as well, if you so choose to utilize them, or even gain inspiration from them for an idea of your own design.
There are a series of rarity levels that apply to all possession items, which include personal starships. These levels determine the expense, ability, and modification capability of your ship. The higher the rarity, the more expensive the ship, the more room you have to modify it with a vast array of options.
These rarity levels are as follows:
Rarity | Color |
---|---|
Common | White |
Uncommon | Green |
Rare | Blue |
Epic | Purple |
Legendary | Orange |
Aside from determining the initial cost of your ship, rarity serves as a cap on what kind of modifications the ship can use. A ship cannot equip a modification with a more exclusive rarity than the ship itself. For example, a rare ship can equip uncommon and rare modifications but cannot equip epic or legendary modifications. There are no common modifications.
Now that you have selected your ship, you can purchase your vehicle's various modifications! There is only one place to obtain these items, and that is the specialty store, Synergy Starship Outfitters. Synergy Starship Outfitters is a unique one-stop shop that sells a wide range of multi-sourced upgrades and customizations for all classes of personal use starships. Whether it’s a new engine or a bigger gun, Outfitters has everything needed to make a ship that’s one-of-a-kind.
Like the other shops in our system, this store is where you will spend your hard earned credits. It is only here that you will be able to purchase new armor capabilities, stronger and more advanced hyperdrives, and a slew of add on weapons. While there is no hard requirement on purchasing these mods for your ships, it is the best way to truly set your spacecraft apart from the other members of our club.
There are five categories of modifications that a vessel can be updated with: Enhancements, Bomb Bays, Hardpoints, Launchers, and Upgrades.
Enhancement modifications add new capabilities to your ship. These upgrades can be anything from adding the smell of wet Wookiee to your ship to a maxed out hyperdrive reactor and droid brain. Within the purview of Enhancements you have Basic Enhancements, and Advanced Enhancements. The difference between these two subcategories is simply the levels and applications of their increased functions.
Some examples of Basic Enhancements are tow cables, backup hyperdrives, and electronic warfare suites.
Some examples of Advanced Enhancements are rapid launch bays, tactical shields, and hyperspace tracking.
Not all ships are equipped with bomb bays, but if you have a ship that has this component then you can add these modifications to your vessel. This category of modification is exactly what it sounds like: an array of various bombs and explosives that your vehicle can drop on its enemies. Mines, bombs, and charges can be formidable weapons against enemy combatants.
Some examples of Bomb Bay mods are ion bombs, thermal imploders, and turret mines.
Some ships will come with available space to add a Hardpoint modification. Hardpoints are external mounts for fixed weapons, turrets, or munitions not covered by launchers or bomb bays. They are additions to the weapons that your ship’s stock model comes with. Like with Enhancements, there are two subcategories of Hardpoints, regular and large. The difference between the two is simply the size of add-on that your ship can handle.
Some examples of Hardpoints are laser canons, anti-pursuit laser turrets, and composite beam canons.
Some examples of Large Hardpoints are heavy duty tractor beams, turbo lasers, and orbital autocanons.
Launchers are modifications to the current missile weapons that your ships already possess. Missiles are some of the strongest weapons in a starship's arsenal, and the ability to change what types of armaments you can launch at enemies will keep them on their toes. Missiles, rockets, and torpedos fall under this category.
Some examples of Launcher modifications in our system are proton torpedos, multi-lock missiles, and barrage rockets.
Upgrades improve an existing capability or feature of your ship. These mods tend to focus on aspects of your ship's physical chassis and hardware. From enhanced armor, ram attachments, and even tinted windows, the array of functionality at your disposal can make your personal ship vastly different from anyone else's.
Also like Enhancements, there are two types of Upgrades at your disposal. There are Mechanical Upgrades which focus on the body and practical applications of your vessel, and System Upgrades which revolve around the circuitry and software available to your vessel.
Some examples of Mechanical Upgrades available are ferrosphere paint, smuggling compartments, and upgraded hulls.
Some examples of System Upgrades available are advanced sensors, upgraded hyperdrives, and deflector shield upgrades.
Like any other item in your possessions, you will access your purchased ships and mods in your Possessions Tab on your Admin Interface. While ships will be slotted into your loadouts, mods will be slotted into your ships. The possibilities are endless in what assortment of ships and mods you choose to possess for your various characters. Take what you have learned here and enjoy it. Happy flying!
