Begeren. Once a prosperous Sith world, it has been the site of numerous battles throughout the millennia. Grand halls and monuments were torn down and re-purposed by looting Republic forces thousands of years ago, before they were driven from the planet. Isolated settlements still dot the planet's surface, but the inhospitable, craggy, and desert-like terrain, along with the beasts common to many desert and Sith worlds, have kept most humanoids from colonizing. Occasional skirmishes have left debris scattered throughout the desert, and battles were fought here as recently as the Galactic Civil War.

The One Sith’s hold on Begeren is all but broken, though a few small pockets of resistance remain. The Clans and Houses of the Brotherhood now swarm the planet to defeat them, but attention has returned to plunder. Roaming bands of Jedi, adherents to light and dark alike, claim—or destroy—priceless artifacts at every turn. One of the few remaining untouched areas on the entire planet is the Valley of Monuments, so named for its glorious architecture. The valley is a patchwork collection of sand dunes and massive canyons, inhospitable even in the best of times. Despite this, the One Sith maintain control over the area. Exactly how—or why—this place has not yet been claimed by the Brotherhood, you do not know, and nor do your superiors, but you know it is ripe for the picking. Perhaps one reason is that access is limited—the One Sith maintain control over the valley’s entrances, save for a small handful of paths that tread directly through canyons used long ago as ancient burial grounds. Intelligence suggests these entrances are virtually undefended. Your plan, at the moment, is to find your way into the Valley of Monuments through one such canyon, and it is there you now find yourself.

Somehow, despite the windswept sand dunes mere meters away, the canyon before you remains virtually free of sand. Macabre hills fill this canyon, thousands of exposed skeletons laying atop one another, the sand dunes of most of the planet replaced by dunes of stark white bones. The dark side hangs thick in the air over this massive valley, flanked by four incredibly large crystals placed at each cardinal direction. This is one of a handful of ancient mass graves, the final resting place of literally thousands of slaves forced to give their lives millennia ago to create the massive monuments of Begeren. Far in the distance, massive Sith monuments rise before an impressive ancient palace, but your attention remains here, now, where the bones shift beneath your every step, crunching noisily. Ancient clubs, whips, and other weapons occasionally break through the bony landscape, testament to the vicious past of this place. To those that can even sense the most rudimentary of emotions through the Force, an even more sinister feeling permeates the air here: not only death, but suffering, anger, and hate.

The sun slowly creeps towards the mountains far beyond this impressive valley, casting long rays of light that reflect off many of the white bones littering the canyon. The heat here is oppressive, but the sun will depart soon, leaving you in cool darkness. You notice that the large crystal to the north, situated in the shadow of a large canyon wall, begins to shimmer a faint blue, causing the bones beneath it to take on a ghostly glow. You think you hear rustling of bones in the distance, and almost think you notice something movement, though it could just have been the wind. Your step hastens as you move quickly through the canyon, hoping to escape this place before sunset takes it, and reach areas with more valuable items to claim or destroy. But before you can make much progress, you begin to hear the telltale signs of another living being—the sound of footsteps crunching bones—and they are coming from just over one of the boney dunes that litter the area.

She stood amidst the crystals, their glow casting an alien light on her ashen skin. She looked ahead, dead eyes of obsidian staring at everything and nothing at once. Forms, shadowed by the darkness, surrounded her. Her mouth moved, soundlessly. The crystals bloomed brighter. Shadows were thrown. The forms, skeletons of long-dead beings, pounded ancient weapons together in frantic motions. She smiled, her lips turned upwards with demonic glee.

A’lora Kituri, Togruta and Seer of Odan-Urr, fought to control her breathing. It was the vision again, the same one that had brought her back to Begeren. It was the same vision she had had two days ago. It was herself staring back at her in that vision, but twisted. Her lavender skin and eyes had become a mockery as the dark side had consumed her. She had gone to her Quaestor, Liam, with her vision in hopes that he may help her understand it. The description of the terrain matched an area of Bergeren that Liam had been looking into. According to him, the area would secretly lead to another location still controlled by the One Sith.

“The Force has spoken to you,” he had told her in his kindly manner. “The future is still in motion. Face your fears and rid this area of the evil that clearly dwells within it.”

Evil doesn’t begin to describe it, she thought soberly. A’lora kept her steps light and nimble as she traversed the bone-covered ground. The valley she found herself in was infused with the dark side and each step she took seemed to tug at her nerves. Anger, fear and hatred radiated from everything around her, trying to sink its claws into her. She knew darkness, had allowed herself to feel the terrible allure of its powers after what the Yuuzhan Vong had done to her, and this area tugged at that part of her. She took another calming breath. The image of herself in the vision kept her wary of the dark side’s influence.

She looked up to watch the setting sun and in the distance saw one of the ancient monuments of the Sith. The sun’s rays glistened off of one of the massive crystals ahead, the light that shone from the crystal making her flinch—it was the same light as her vision. The sun was sinking quicker than she thought, the creeping darkness quickening her steps. The bones of the dead crunched every so slightly under her normally sure-footing.

CRUNCH. CRUNCH. CRUNCH.

A’lora stopped in her tracks, instinctively cloaking herself in the Force. Invisible to the naked eye, she slowly turned in place to look at her surroundings. She could sense only the dark side that coated everything. The sound was clearly not from a lightsider, but she could not sense whether it was the One Sith, a darksider, or someone else entirely.

Crunch crunch crunch

Whoever it was did not bother trying to hide their presence. She pinpointed the direction of the noise, focusing on that direction. A figure suddenly coalesced before her, silhouetted by a stray beam of light from the setting sun. For a brief moment she could make out the features of this figure. He had green hair and robes of black and green. He held a lightsaber hilt in his hand that matches his robes. His image was familiar. Halcyon. He was the man who had inflicted devastating scars of the destruction upon New Tython that still lingered to this day. It was before her time, but the stories remained vivid in the history of Odan-Urr. This man was once the right-hand of the Grand Master and a Dark Jedi of great power.

He strode straight for her, his power easily piercing the veil of her cloak. With a cleansing breath she grabbed hold of her lightsaber, the emerald blade leading the charge as she sprang forward. Swift steps closed the distance in a blink as her blade careened towards the man. With practiced ease, Halcyon met the attack, the two blades of similar hue slamming into one another. A’lora immediately pivoted on her heel, her blade coming around to Halcyon’s exposed side. With the flick of his wrist, Halcyon sent A’lora stumbling backwards with a push from an invisible palm.

A’lora immediately caught herself, using the momentum to flip backwards before steadying her legs. Without waiting another breath, she launched herself once more at Halcyon. Her lekku twirled about her lithe form as she fell upon the older man. Halcyon slowly moved backwards as he fought to keep up against the quick jabs and strikes of his opponent. As A’lora seemed to find an opening she felt invisible hands push her away at the last moments. Her athleticism was being pitted against the fine control of a powerful Force user.

She felt the flash of anger at the edge of her senses before physically feeling it. An invisible hammer seemed to slam against her chest, hurtling her backwards and into a pile of dessicated bones.

“You have one chance to leave.” Halcyon’s voice was iron, hard and unyielding. It was a voice of command; one used to being obeyed. “Remove yourself or I will remove you.”
