Finished
[COU-PLA Phase 1] Fiction - Song and Stories
This competition is in the [COU-PLA Phase 1] Fiction Bin.

Prompt:

The Desired One has brought Odan-Urr and Plagueis to Myrkr in the hopes of obtaining the powerful artifact. Songs and stories about the Desired One have existed as long as the object itself.

Rules

  • Your entry must include a poem to qualify for participation.
  • Any form of poetry is acceptable, but you must identify your chosen form. (If you don’t know what this means, a good example is an haiku, wherein each haiku is one stanza.)
  • Poems should be a minimum of two stanzas in your chosen form.

Grading
Grading will be based on:

  • {30%} Adherence to the structure of your identified form.
  • {15%} Mechanics of spelling and grammar (within the realm of poetic license).
  • {25%} How well the poem reads fits the prompt.
  • {30%} Overall creativity.

In the style of Housman's "When I Was One-and-Twenty," catalectic iambic tetrameter on the odd lines and iambic trimeter on the even ones.

Rakatan arms did forge the stone,
A weapon built of woe.
Desired it will ever be,
For they have made it so.
A humble rock it seems to be,
And never you suspect
That as you seek a golden ship
You only find a wreck.

The Sith and then their rivals came,
Both seeking fabled prize.
All those who entered temple depths
Could not believe their eyes.
Desired One had called them there,
A place where life should thrive.
Ironic was their fate indeed,
As not a one survived.

Lost in time
the rumours abound
of a powerful item
waiting to be found.

The rumours were traced
back to Kiasdt and Jedha
And hunters from all around
Thought with them it would be better.

Hunted for aeons,
the Desired One hid.
Until mentions of it surfaced.
Caused murmurs, it did.

Kept in a temple
the Jed'aii guarded well
then someone stole in
and the theft caused hell.

Two Clans of the Brotherhood
desired it for their own.
They would stop at nothing
to bring the Desired One home.

They fought and they tried
to gain the power
of the ring and many died
hour after hour.

At last it was found
hidden in plain sight.
Both Clans of the Brotherhood
ceased their bloody fight.

The power it posessed
made all shiver in fear.
So all thought it best
To keep the ring near.

It sits in state
in a building guarded well.
Who knows how long it will be
before it once again brings hell?

(common couplet poetry)

__Beware the Desired One__

In the deep dark of the woods,
A grand temple once stood.
Many seek to lay its secrets bare,
But hidden knowledge, it will not share.

An artifact of power and renown,
No greater prize to be found,
Seek it out, if you dare,
But hopeful searchers must beware.

To crave the power is like a drug,
And the path before you is paved in blood.
Kill your enemies and watch your friends,
For it may be you who finds your end.

A ballad using ABCB rhyming

"The Ballad of the Desired One"

In ancient of days when the power of the Jed’aii did wane
And the unity of Ashla and Bogan gave way to strife
A wise master toiled through scroll and through metal
To forge a way to preserve life

From the wisdom of her heart and the strength of her hand
The master created a talisman which bridged dark and light
What she had created intended to heal
Instead became a weapon for which to fight

The Desired One, long sought
In darkened places and shadowed halls
What horrors or wonders could be brought?

Wars and strife, no lesson taught
Causing hardened hearts to build walls
The Desired One, long sought

How hard will the battle be fought
Will the final horn finally call?
What horrors or wonders could be brought?

A relic of power long forgot
Its stories and songs grow tall
The Desired One, long sought

It is now time to doubt not
The search begins for one all
What horrors or wonders could be brought?

A wish must be made before hope can rot
Or shall it be destroyed for all?
The Desired One, long sought
What horrors and wonders could be brought?

My poem is in haiku format.

The stone of desires
For those whom covet greatness
Holds power untold

Whether endless wealth
Or unbelievable strength
Desired one grants all

For those who seek it
A Warning to make a wish
The price may be steep

Form: Quatrain, 7 syllable, ABAB pattern

So lies the one desired,
Deep in the heart of others,
Know I your own desire,
Which not a world could cover.

Yet it would bring their design,
An end or a thing to see,
And bring from the burning Line
Of woe through every tree.

Haiku

Desired

The desired one

Mysterious to the closed

Minds must be open

To unlock contents

Hidden deep within the stone

Listen to the dreams

Immortality

Black branches web above,
Against majestic moonlight beyond
A low, distant howl

Twigs crack near
Is it a foe? A beast?
Nay, a fruit fell from above

Moonlight, magical night
My beastial nature comes fast
I dream of Desired One

Fabled rock, destiny of armies
Why do they seek it?
Unlimited power!

Arcane stone, worshipped stone,
It speaks of the Force
Immorality for just one, perhaps!

A Neti tale speaks of the one

To desire to wish the story's spun

Awaken to the Relic the forgotten stone

War was waged the paintings have shown

Deep in the jungle it lays in wait

For those brave enough to accept their fate

Days turned to years it quietly calls

But to find it means that others will fall

A gem of blackened stone, it's facets gleaming and bright, but beware what you wish and choose your words carefully, lest you wind up alone, adrift in the endless void.
