Our characters' life is influenced by their character sheet, or was that the other way around?

Pick either a high ranking skill or feat and explain in either 1st or 3rd person how they were able to get so skilled at it. Is their profession chosen because of that skill? Or did they get good at the skill by being in that profession? How has their life been affected by being so good at this skill or feat?
