Competition: Bells, Bonds, and New Lives.

Finished
Bells, Bonds, and New Lives.

The Fiction:

During the Lunar New Year celebrations in Kiast nuptials were relatively common, with the celebrations and public ceremonies becoming so prolific that Magistrates would be dispatched to prominent festivals to provide notary services at reduced rates for spontaneous weddings. Concern over the spontaneity of these marriages was often met with a simple response of the newlyweds wishing to start the new year together with a new, married, life.

As the celebrations grew larger, and The Gauntlet's ceremonies began to expand, some groups who had previously hidden themselves away for their own celebrations, started to rent space and openly celebrate, exposing many to the song, dance, and courtship rituals of their people.

The Competition:

Every species has many unique marriage and courtship rituals among their people. In at least 500 words, write a fiction highlighting the traditions your character would have been exposed to through their cultures, whether they are pre-established or developed headcanons, including how exactly they relate to their culture.

  • Entries must be at least 500 words.
  • Entries should be submitted in .docx or .pdf formats, or through the text box below (no GDoc links please).
  • Entries will be graded according to the Fiction Rubric 3.0
