Competition: [Phase 3] Conflict: Key Entity Extraction

Finished
[Phase 3] Conflict: Key Entity Extraction

The Vauzem Dominion, in their continued efforts to paint the Vatali Empire and Clan Odan-Urr as the instigators of the ongoing conflict have turned to terroristic bombings across Quermia. Thankfully the Sentinel Network managed to intercept communications and information about the types of explosives beforehand, disseminating them to forces on the ground. However, this effort could only prevent so much and many bombs were still deployed. Do you have the skills to defuse the bombs, or will you return them to the Vauzem and turn their own weaponry against them?

We will be hosting a bomb-defusing game in the Brotherhood Discord Server's #button-urr channel. The objective is for one member to 'plant' a bomb and others to attempt to defuse it by clipping various exposed wires, gaining or losing points as they go. Your goal is clear, plant or defuse bombs, work together with your fellows, or go it alone, and try to amass the highest point value by the end of the bombing spree.

Participation:

Gain access to the #button channel by granting yourself the Dee Dee role through the button in #settings.

Score at least one point (it does not matter if you lose that point later)

Win Conditions:

Continue planting and/or defusing and end up with the highest point total

The Deets:

  • Each detonator will have several different kinds of of wires, including at least one instant detonator, a booby-trap, and one defuse wire. The bomb also features a countdown timer and will explode when said timer runs out.
  • Cutting a previously un-cut wire will yield n points, where n is the number of cut wires including the one just cut. If this detonates the bomb (instant detonator), the person who planted the bomb will gain that amount of points, and the person cutting the wire loses that amount. In every other case (defuse, booby-trap, or regular wire), the person cutting the wire gains the points.
  • Cutting the booby-trap wire halves the remaining time on the current bomb.
  • Cutting the defuse wire stops the timer and defuses the bomb.
  • When a detonator's timer runs out before it is defused, the person who planted it gains p points, where p is the number of cut wires times two
  • A person may not plant multiple bombs in a row; cut more than one wire on the same detonator; or cut wires on a bomb they themselves planted. Doing so will come with a 5-point penalty.
  • Point totals can never go below zero. If any action would cause your point total to go below zero, you instead lose as many points it takes for your score to become 0. If you already had 0 points, your score does not change.
  • If a bomb is ongoing when the competition ends, that round will still finish and be able to change point totals, but once the competition ends no new bombs can be planted
  • Lastly, please take to heart that this is a game. Be mindful of yourself, think of others, and be a good sport. If you feel you're getting rankled or obsessed, take a small break, the competition will still be here in a few hours.
