Kant Lavar, in my head, has always been closer to the Grey path than the Dark. He was never comfortable with more traditional darkity-darkdark, nearly cliche evil that some Sith ascribe to. Brutality and terror have not ever been his weapons of choice, and being evil for the sake of being evil ha never made sense to him.

At the same time, he regards the Jedi as fools at best, and inhuman machines at worst. Their repression of emotion, he feels, has lead to as many Jedi falling to the Dark Side on their own as any Dark Lord. Their removal of themselves from the lives of the general populace left them vulnerable to Palpatine's machinations, just as the mindless brutality and the reputation of same has ever mobilized the galaxy against the Sith.

This leads to a single conclusion: Balance. The light cannot exist without the dark. Emotion cannot exist without control. Power must have restraint. The Grey Path is the best fit for Kant Lavar.
