Primary reason

Today I am a very proud Proconsul. Today I get to speak about an Arconan that has put forth so much to our Clan. Today I am proud of...

K’tana.

For 11 months, she has been consistently, day in and day out, one of the most active members of Clan Arcona. She has managed to compete in a total of 58 competitions: 18 of which were fiction entries wherein she accumulated over 37, 204 words of documented writing. She has earned 80 Clusters of Ice which plays a big part in her current rank Inquisitorius rank IX. In day to day competitions, she has earned 2 Crescents with Diamond Star, 2 Crescents with Ruby Star, 4 Crescents with Amethyst Star, 7 Crescents with Sapphire Star, 5 Crescents with Emerald Star and 2 Crescents with Topaz Star. Whew! K’tana also brought in two new recruits that earned her 2 Scrolls of Indoctrination. She managed to pass 10 Shadow Academy courses that helped her earn the Dark Pundit - Essentials degree as well.

K’tana was awarded a Steel Cross for her excellent activity as well as for stepping up as a Battleteam Sergeant for 2 Months. K’tana did not stop there, however, and continued to bull forward as she found herself taking over the team as the new Battleteam Leader. As BTL, K’tana has maintained a daily, highly active presence on Telegram and e-mail communication. She has published 7 reports to date over the 5 month period of being Battleteam Leader. To top it off, she has also hosted 4 events while co-organizing 3.

One element of her leadership that might not show up on paper, however, is her ability to get members, quite simply, to “do the things.” During the last Clan-wide event--“Halloween Horror Nights”-- K’tana motivated Shadow Gate to dominate and outscore the rest of the competing Battleteams. Three of those members happened to be Elders, who typically don’t show up unless there is a major war. Day in and day out, however, K’tana’s activity and energy is contagious and motivates even our crusty old veterans into participating in activities and being active within the team. She also is incredibly patient with new members, and has been a positive role model by leading by example and participating in nearly anything she can get her hands on.

So, however long winded this may have been, I wish to thank K’tana for all of her hard work, dedication and leadership. The method of my thanks, of course, would be her elevation to Savant. Thank you, Kat, for everything and continue dominating, spreading your charm and showing us how badass you really can be.

Additional reasons

At the conclusion of Great Jedi War XI, I had a decision to make in my last days as Consul. Each unit was awarded the privilege of having a single Battlefield promotion. I asked for suggestions from both Houses, but only one member came forward from both sides. That member was K’tana. Kat’s history as a member had been sporadic at best, but she really came on strong in the War. The Summit unanimously agreed that she would get the Field Promo. Some figured that after receiving it, she would slink back off into one of her usual sporadic in-and-outs. However, almost a full year later (11 Months running), I think we have evidence quite to the contrary.

K’tana, aka Kat aka the once and future Unicorn Queen aka Magesticorn is a unique type of member. She isn’t the first person you think of when you think of powerful leader, but when you take a second to peek a bit closer, the truth becomes more and more clear. As mentioned by Esca, K’tana has been one of the most active members of Arcona. She has worked hard to make a transition from regular member to leadership, and despite having very little relevant leadership training she has become, in my humble opinion, the heart and spirit of House Qel-Droma. The subtle things that might not get picked up in the numbers or stats or the inter-member relationships she manages on a daily basis. While just a BTL, Kat considers everyone in Qel-Droma (within her battleteam or not) to be her friend and therefore someone she is willing to help. This attitude is not only infectious, but endearing. It’s what she does naturally, and what makes her such a good leader despite still being new and raw. I’m almost scared to see what she could become with more experience under her belt. Everyday is a new day, though, and it has been exciting, from the perspective of a regular member, to watch her grow into her role. And the funny thing is, that is just Kat being Kat.

Kat took this a step further in December where, despite having to go overseas on a semi-LOA, she still managed to organize one of the few Run-On teams that managed to complete and place in the Holiday Competition. K’tana checked in daily on the RO Team Telegram, helped outline the story and then lead by example by penning her posts in a timely manner.

Between her recorded activity and statistics on paper, and her infectious ability to inspire activity in others around her as a leader, it is my honor to add my voice of support towards K’tana attaining the rank of Equite 2. It is a privilege to be a part of Shadow Gate Battleteam.

Great work, Shiny. I hope you’ve figured out your saber design already and aren’t going to freak out once the promotion sinks in ;).

Since her Battlefield Promotion in February, I’ve watched K’tana evolve as both a member and a leader. In the beginning, she couldn’t see the potential I did, but she eventually found it. When the former leader of Shadow Gate stepped down, there was no need for the long application process; even though she didn’t, I believed she had what it took to lead Shadow Gate into the next period of evolution. K’tana not only proved me right, she exceeded any and all expectations I had for her.

K’tana chooses to lead from the front lines, to lead by example, a method I quite admire in anyone. Her members, both new and old, absolutely adore her and are both willing and able to put their team in the top placement for activity. Motivating Elders into ‘doing all the things’ is no small feat, just as giving newer members the confidence to begin to make names for themselves is nowhere near as easy as it sounds. Yet K’tana does both without breaking stride.

I believe that this is only the beginning of Kat’s career as a leader and feel that she could go far. Her exemplar activity speaks for itself; the members of her team are flourishing under her careful hand. I look forward to seeing how far she goes in the future as her evolution continues. As such, it’s my distinct pleasure to be recommending K’tana’s promotion to EQ2.

Congratulations. Have fun designing your own lightsaber, Kitty.

K’tana has been a member of the Brotherhood for three years. She was relatively well known for her strong opinions and brazen personality, but it has only been in the past twelve months that she has truly come into her own. For the first two years of her time in the Brotherhood, she had spurts of high activity followed by lengthy lulls - and though she always showed up for important events, she showed little interest in the day to day operations of Arcona. In the past year, something has changed.

She has - through painstaking effort - grown significantly as a writer, competed consistently in numerous competitions despite the drama and turbulence of real life and learned to lead from the front - constantly inspiring those under and around her to push further and strive harder to do their best. She has sought out new work that needs done, spearheading a number of smaller projects to help bring her Battleteam back to the forefront of Arcona. In short, she’s discovered just how joyful it can be to help those around you and to try to make the Brotherhood a better place. It’s what separates the Equites who fizzle out from those who excel long-term, and I am thrilled to see just how passionately she has come to care about her members and their time in this club.

Though she was hesitant to step into a role of responsibility, she has taken to it like a duck to water, succeeding through sheer vitality and cussedness. She took on the mantle of Shadow Gate’s Gatewarden at a time when activity had dwindled and most of the membership sat idle on the roster. Now, six months later, she has one of the most active teams in Arcona and so many people being recruited to it that we’ve actually had to start asking some of them to transfer to other battleteams. If there’s a greater testament to small unit leadership, I can’t think of what it might be.

She still has her strong opinions and brazen personality, but she has also shown she has a heart the size of the Death Star. We wouldn’t have her any other way.

K’tana, it is my sincere and immense pleasure to recommend you for promotion to Equite II. Congratulations. You’ve earned it.

  • Terran Koul, Aedile, House Qel-Droma of Clan Arcona

Terran Koul, 2015-12-26 15:26:36 UTC

I know this is not typical for non-leaders to add recommendations, but I felt that I could add a few nice words for my current BTL, who has really impacted how I’ve enjoyed the club.

Ever since joining the DB there are few people who I feel like I can always come and talk to about stuff whenever the need or want arises. K’tana is one of those select few, ever since I handed off the mantle of leadership of Shadow Gate. Since becoming Battleteam Leader, Kat has done nothing but make it fun and enjoyable for those that are a part of the team.

The way she is always happy and chipper, despite the many headache-inducing stunts that myself and the others tend to pull off from time to time, is something that I hope that others take note of. Not a lot of people have that kind of patience anymore, but Kat does and I always feel like I can count on her as a Leader and friend.

So, in closing, for everything that she has done and will do for this BT I thank you, Katicorn, for being awesome.
