I've been developing my character a bit since I began and with his motivation being his research I don't feel that the Jedi Order's beliefs actually fit him. The character still has his own moral compass, and lines he won't cross, but the protection of others just isn't a major concern of his. I think Grey fits him better because he will use dark side power in his research, so long as it fits his morals. The "sidedness" of the Force doesn't concern this person, only making progress on his theories. I also don't think he is Sith because he does not crave the power of what he is researching, the fact that he could be the one to make a groundbreaking discovery is what motivates him.
