Primary reason

Raikou is one of our old veterans, someone who has been part of the Brotherhood for years and has stuck to it through thick and thin. His dedication to his current Clan and serving his members is fantastic and a beacon to others.

Raikou is a good friend, a great confidante and an excellent leader who wants to help others. I can rely on Raikou to tell me the truth when we are looking at ideas and events. His drive to succeed and help others has seen him serve as part of the Marka Ragnos summit as it's Aedile for the past 12 months. In addition to that, Raikou has served 6 months as Magistrate to the Headmaster.

The 6 months that Raikou served as Magistrate saw him assist the Headmaster in creating and auditing courses, general jobs and learning how the Shadow Academy worked. Raikou was primarily involved with the Audit for which he had taken most of the Department of Flight under his wing. During his tenure he had spell checked, proofread, debated about, and rewritten the following courses: Astronomy Studies, Capital Starship Studies, Starfighter Studies, as well as help to rewrite Freighters/Transports studies.

During that time, Raikou has mentored members, learned the finer points of leadership and what is expected from a paragon of the Brotherhood, Muz Ashen, and has utilised it well. Marka Ragnos has expanded in terms of activity under their watch, which has given me ample reasons to praise them.

Since his last promotion, Raikou has organised/co-organised a total of 25 competitions, including the extremely popular Sands of Time event. These 25 competitions had a total of 138 entries, which works out to 5.52 entries per competition.

In addition to this, Raikou has participated in a total of 72 competitions, earning 8 Crescents of varying levels. Raikou has shown that even if he doesn't place, it doesn't stop him from going the distance and participating in competitions run at a House to Club level. He acts as an example to his members, exhorting them to match him in participating in events that we're eager to see succeed.

For his work during the past year, Raikou earned himself a Sapphire Blade for his hard work along with an Anteian Cross for his work in assisting Evant in bringing Possessions to life.

Raikou has been active in the gaming scene too, taking advantage of the new interest in Heroes of the Storm by the Brotherhood. Raikou has earned 81 Clusters of Fire from 8 PvP matches and 39 Clusters of Earth from 6 PvE/PvO matches. Raikou has also earned 7 Clusters of Graphite for his gfx entries as well as a Legion of Scholar.

Alongside all of this, Raikou has completed 5 ACC matches, coming close to winning the Herald run ACC tournament. Raikou has also written over 12,000 words for fictions and Run On posts. Finally, Raikou has also completed 13 Shadow Academy courses and earned 2 Degrees.

Others will talk in more detail about Raikou's work as Aedile and Magistrate, but I can talk about the influence he's had on the Clan. Raikou has blossomed during his time in Naga Sadow. When he first joined us, Raikou was someone who had a need to prove himself, someone who often doubted himself. His time with us has seen him grow as a person and a leader. Someone who has, despite going through troubles in life, has put aside his time to edit courses, write hordes of wiki articles, attend meetings and generally act as a leader to his members.

Muz' mentoring of Raikou has allowed Raikou to develop the skills of a future Consul and I look forward to the time when Raikou is given the chance to lead the Clan.

Congratulations on your promotion to Corsair, Raikou!

Additional reasons

Raikou has been my left hand since I came out of retirement to have a stab at rebuilding Marka Ragnos. I inherited him from my predecessor, and I have to say that I could not have picked a better aedile myself. Still a touch green when I arrived, he has taken advantage of my being here, constantly posing 'what if' scenarios and picking my brain for how things work and why they are the way that they are in an effort to help broaden his understanding of the Brotherhood. He generally blows up my telegram, essentially forcing me to train him so he can take the mantle of Quaestor on himself and then on to other, higher things that I am sure he will excel at.

He is a workhorse. Barring a two week period where he was on holiday out of country, he has been omnipresent, almost frothing at the mouth looking for something to do. If i make a minor suggestion, he clamps onto it like a wild dog and doesn't let it go until he's finished. I challenge him regularly to smash participation as a example to the other leaders and the members, so he guns hard for 100% rates on events wherever he can. I have watched as he was working on competition entries when he should have been packing his suitcase for holiday, when he should have been working at his real life job, when he should be out enjoying having a social life. This is a measure of his dedication. And yet I know he is constantly seeking out additional work in areas other than the House. It is impressive.

The path from there to here has not been without struggle and conflict. Some lessons are harder learned than others, and some things can be viewed as setbacks or even insults to someone as competitive as Raikou is. Yet he has learned a measure of patience, his perspective shifting and his focus honing in like a laser on what he has said he has wanted since the day I met him: to give back to the brotherhood.

That selflessness and desire drives people to do the repetitive and often banal work that helps keep this club going. It is work, and often overlooked when it comes time to hand out shineys. Tempering the desire to run huge events constantly to generate attention to yourself with the desire to help the clan attain its goals is a trick not too many have mastered, but Raikou is learning the skills well. From running spreadsheets on individual participation, to setting up the organization necessary to keep a house (and yes, a clan or even the club) running in the right direction to delving into the realm of overanalyzing competition details, Raikou has been intrisic. This eye for detail, organization and planning are necessary skills so that literally every piece of the puzzle slots together seamlessly in pursuit of the overall goals of the house, of the clan. This work has been instrumental in running events such as the 'Sands of Time' and the 'Seige of Heaven' campaigns in the house and clan, but also mightily useful in helping create a structure for the future of the house. When Sanguinius told me that it was time, I was more than happy to be able to stand behind the reccomendation to elevate Raikou in rank. It is more than time, and I hope that this token of our esteem proves how important you are to the clan and house. Thanks for all that you do, and all that I know you will do. ~Muz Ashen, the Lion of Tarthos

Lord Muz Ashen Keibatsu, 2017-05-08 23:54:11 UTC

Of all our members, Raikou is certainly a noteworthy one. He has served as an Aedile over a year, but his efforts in the last few months have been rather exemplary. While he has stated his character has an interest primarily in his adopted Keibatsu family, the man himself has served faithfully as our Aedile within House Marka Ragnos as well as to the Shadow Academy during his term as a Magistrate to the Headmaster. This latter service is something that I find as even more endearing, though this may be something I find in part in light of my own service as a former Professor.

He is willing to serve other members and has helped to mentor others to reach greater heights even as he has worked with Muz to sharpen his own skills. He has created opportunities for others to take part in, has developed his own character and always has his eyes pointed forward on to where he and we- both his House and his Clan- go from where he and we are. As a gamer, a writer, a leader and an overall contributor, he has given me no reason I can see that I wouldn't throw my hat in with Sanguinius and others in recommending Raikou (also known affectionately as Ophelia) to the rank of Corsair.

Enjoy the prestige and options afforded that of your new rank, Raikou. It will be great to see what else you can achieve as a member of the Brotherhood. Your years of work to get to this point were not in vain and I anticipate greater things from you in future years to come. Well done, Corsair, on your promotion!

Drinks will be on you at the Boomshakalaka.
