Primary reason

The path for each member up the ranks is different, dependent on the pursuits and desires of the member in question. Some shoot up ranks, while others make their way up a little more leisurely. Some are called away by duties IRL, but their heart within the club burns for the Clan they call home, bringing them back again and again. I think the last of these describes Marcus Kiriyu.

Now, it has been a while. Marcus was last up for promotion in a bit over two years ago. Since that time he has had a child, which rightfully takes precedence over a club where we write stories pretending to be space wizards in a place far away from this orb we call earth. And you know, a long time ago. Life gets busy, and priorities have to shift around. But still, Marcus has come back to us again.

In the two years and something since his last promotion, despite his relatively limited time, Marcus has taken part in putting together 15 comps. While only one of these he organized himself, he did take part in the planning and oragnaization of two remarkable events for Clan Naga Sadow: The New Ties cooperative event between CNS and Tarentum, and the Below Zero event put together by himself and Kojiro in August of last year. Both events were relatively well-received. He also has taken part in 58 comps on his own, bringing in a spattering of awards: 8 Crescent with Amethyst Star, 8 Crescents with Sapphire Star, 7 Crescents with Emerald Star, 4 Crescents with Topaz Star and a Crescent with a Quartz Star. When you account for the 2 Legions of the Scholar he has also collected, running the numbers shows that about half of the time he competes, he brings something shiny home. that is not exactly something to scoff about. He has also gathered up 3 Pendants of Blood, 3 Clusters of Fire, 10 Clusters of Ice, 130 Clusters of Earth and 4 Clusters of Graphite between gaming, writing and graphics activities. Not a bad haul.

His work has not been restricted to just building himself up, however. Marcus has also mentored a student to Knight- earning himself a Scroll of the Master- but he has also earned 26 Scrolls of Foundation and an Amethyst Kukiri for his work in the Shadow Academy. This includes 23 courses graded for the Academy. He also worked on his own degrees (10 of them!) as he passed 30 courses since his last promotion. Not shabby, at all.

Most recently he has been acting once again as Praetor, which means that he has been directing myself and other members of the SA staff beneath our Headmaster, to make sure that we remain in line and keep up with our projects. He has also been rather involved when it comes to projects in ensuring that the work being completed is in line with Seraphol/Farrin's vision for the Shadow Academy. If memory serves, it was for his work with the Shadow Academy that Marcus also earned himself a Seal of Loyalty in celebration of the ratification of the Covenant. Of smaller note is that he also took part in at least one competition in our last Great Jedi War, for which he received a single Seal of Wrath.

Over the last two years and so, Myst has also held a couple of leadership positions: a couple of weeks as a Docent of the SA, about a month as Proconsul before life called him away, 2 months as Aedile of House Marka Ragnos, two months as Magistrate to the Voice, and a combined 12 months as a Praetor to the Head Master. Despite the speed bumps, Marcus seems to have returned with a definite purpose and drive. When reviewing my membership, I have to confess I was a little surprised that Marcus had not been put up for promotion sooner than just now.

I hope that Clan Naga Sadow and others will join me in welcoming Marcus to the third grade of the Equite ranks. Congratulations on Seer, Marcus!

Additional reasons

What can I say about Marcus, that has not already been said 100x over. I have known this man for a while now, and he has been a force to reckon with inside the Clan and House. He has been my boss, a mentor, a sounding board, and most of all friend. His advice and guidance I have to give credit to, without it I don't think I would be in the position I am in now.

Marcus is always extending a hand to help and guide all of us here within the Clan and House. He sets example for others to follow, he is truly destined for greater things within our Clan and Brotherhood. Marcus has busted his tail to garner this promotion and it cannot come to a more deserving person. Marcus I thank you for all that you have done for me, and look forward to more of your guidance. I whole-heartedly recommend Marcus for this promotion!!

So Marcus, my right hand, my devils advocate, and my senior minion. It is time to see you elevated.

The above statement is literally everything Marcus does. Since becoming my Praetor roughly 3 months ago, he has had a major hand in working on every project that we have started on, and even one that is almost finished. Hours of Telegram chats debating on fictional readjustments, on course consolidation/realignment, and on new courses that are currently in writing. During the most recent audit of library of courses the DJB runs he took it upon himself to go through the backlog of errors reported by the membership and fix the issues. While most were relatively minor things, there was a queue of roughly 75 errors to be fixed over the 6 departments. This included both graded and auto graded exams.

He has also advised on projects that he worked with Farrin on. Namely the Shadow Academy Society, staff reduction, and [REDACTED]. He has also worked on the SA Policies and Procedures wiki so that we have a reference points for members who are interested in SA work.

He has been a hell of a Praetor and much of the success of this office is due to him being a part of it. Congratulations on EQ3!
