Primary reason

Erin has been an EL1 longer than most of our members have been in the club. A lot of that time was spent bouncing between Tal and the rogues, but in the last few years she has made a concerted effort to be more active and has sought out leadership roles and major projects including PCON and CON of Taldryan, P:HM, M:SCL, and now Emissary. Her work as M:SCL in particular is worth highlighting: I have spent most of the last decade on the DC and in all of that time, I have never seen anyone on the SCL staff make the kinds of major contributions that Erin has made in just a few months--most notably coding the new judgment system for the ACC.

She's an enthusiastic participant in DC discussions (legacy title: Argues With Bears) and a font of ideas, but she can also get things done. Most recently she led the charge in quantifying DC staff processing tasks for XP, something that had historically been a very wishy washy, handwavey item in medal and promotion requests.

I am very glad that she decided to give leadership another shot and that she was in the right place at the right time to land Emissary. Congratulations, Erin, on finally being recognized as one of our eldest elders.

Additional reasons

Such Elder. Much Wisdom. Wow.

This one has been highly anticipated and for good reason. Stints running TAL, work in DC offices and finally EMS itself, Erin has been quite busy over her very long career. None of those jobs have been easy, and it makes me very glad to see her finally cross that EL2 goal line.

Impressively she managed to not only deal with the stresses as of a totally new DC position, but also has taken the time to do some coding magic to finally get the Judging overhaul of the ACC done. That involved parsing my train of thought notes and descriptions, which is no easy feat. Everytime I’ve had to deal with Erin she has been insanely responsive, receptive, and ready to get the job done, traits we all hope for in any member, and especially in a Councilor.

Many congratulations Erin on this promotion. Now go argue with the bear some more.

In the DJB, there are two kinds of people; members who sit in the dark and complain about it being dark, and never offering or attempting to try and do anything about, and then members who will not just complain about it being dark, but offer ideas on how to make it less dark, grab a fricking ladder, climb up, and change the goddamn lightbulb.

I am talking about light bulbs, and fully understand that we already got rid of the "dark" part of the Jedi Brotherhood. You know what I meant.

Anyway, Erinyes is the later kind of member. It's one thing to recognize issues with something, and then to lament about it. I first got to know Erin when she came back to the Brotherhood after time away by luck. I was added to a small group chat with her where we got to commiserate on things we thought could be done better in the club.

I'm honored to say that I've now gotten to watch Erinyes chase after her ideas and goals. To actually put the work in and try to make changes to the Brotherhood. It's easy to be complacent, or fall back on the "better" old times, but she has kept her eyes forward and focused.

She was part of trio of big-brains (with Arch and I) to see the potential for RP as a platform, not just a side activity that a few people were doing. Her input helped the proposal that ultimately went to the Grand Masters and was approved.

While I can't speak to her Clan-leadership, I do know that Erin was a big factor in helping to bridge relationships between Clans.

When she didn't get Emissary, she could have just said 'fluff it. But she didn't. She continued to work, and when things required her to step up, she did.

As Emissary and working with the SCL, she has also been one of the only non-James people to help develop important changes to the database side of our website. She also was able to help me get the data I needed, as Exarch, to make informed decisions. She accomplished this by making a report targeted towards RP activity that I can now run whenever I want. She's taken feedback, tweaked things, and even implemented a way to track my staffs admin approvals on RPs. Which is awesome and a great QoL feature.

All of these things, plus her continued commitment to improving the club, make her a true Elder 2, even if the XP threshold was met.

Keep up the great work, Erinyes.

Erinyes. It has been an insane year, considering that only a year ago I didn’t really know you. In that time, we spent an entire 5 weeks of our lives messing about on Halo Infinite and stepped up into the Emissary Office as partners in crime social stuff. We poked at each other’s applications for Emissary, supporting each other despite being in competition and proceeded to get to work before I got the pleasure of working under you. All through that time we’ve shared perfectly acceptable ladies wielding axes, cat pics, no shots being thrown away and many gremlin activities. I couldn’t ask for more, though you gave it in heaps. I’m used to having activity assessments to pull here, but I’ll try and reel off what I’ve seen of Erinyes instead. From memory.

From day one in the office, she was on the ground creating prospective changes for the club. For instance, Erinyes was the brain behind moving the competition tab to activities rather than Main and while I’m sure some still click main (Including myself), it’s the beginning of a line of dominos. It’s been some time since I’ve seen the plans, but they were being built from well before she was even hired to the magistrate role.

Then as January rolled around, we were knee deep in it. The social media launch in February, the first upcoming member newsletters that needed to roll out for the rogues and the clan members, as well as the continuing progress and plans for the backend of things, Erinyes worked to keep us organised and working forward. I’ve been able to go to Erinyes over anything and everything, be it concerns or additional thoughts wise. Threads full of random comments and ideas can speak to that. Yet we still got it done. Her kindness and the trust she built as a leader, I also had no hesitation when I realised Consul-hood was overwhelming my ability to be a good Praetor. I was given the time through the months prior to focus elsewhere and pull through on tasks, and found myself fumbling as time continued. Erinyes was beyond supportive, allowing me time to solidify the decision before I stepped away truly. There is no complaint I have about her as a leader, member or friend in this club.

There is no doubt the impact Erinyes has had on the club, a pillar of the #OneBrotherhood mindset and working to make this club the best community it can be. Arguer of Bears and Avatar of Noodles. As long deserved as this has been, drinks are still going to be on you for this one <3.

What more can I add here that hasn't already been said? Erinyes has been my most productive staff member in years, taking the lead on and completing numerous projects the details of which can be found on the recommendations on the various awards she recently received. Not only that, but she managed to accomplish this while also serving on the Emissary's staff and later even taking over the Emissary role itself. It is often said that one of the key things that defines the higher level Elders is that they have made lasting changes to the Brotherhood, and this is certainly the case for Erin. Congratulations on this promotion, it is well deserved!

Throughout my time working as Communications Tribune, and now Magistrate to the Emissary, Erinyes has not only been an incredible collaborator, but a wonderful "boss" and friend. I know I wouldn't be in the position I am in today without her, and for that I am forever grateful. She has been the sturdy rock in the crazy world that is "Emissary." From getting a kick start on the Social Media accounts, to social hangouts/attempted movie nights, and even redesigning the DJB website, the Emissary team has accomplished a lot this year and wouldn't have done so without her. Outside of the Emissary world, Erinyes is an active in the Discord, and a very kind person, one that I have been able to lean on and talk to (as I am sure others have as well). She is everything a DJB leader should be and more. Thank you Erinyes for all your hard work and dedication with the Brotherhood as a whole, and the Emissary team. This promotion is WELL deserved! I cannot wait to see what the future holds, and look forward to present and future collaborations! Congratulations!

Many things have already been said about Erinyes as a member and leader, all of them justified, and yet most certainly altogether none of us able to completely sum up her impact. I could discuss her wonderfulness as a DM of several long term RPs I've been in and her curation and world building of several fictional aspects of Taldraya and the club and her collaboration with members on in character companies and storylines. I could talk about how proactive she is as Emissary and her legacy as a Combat Master being one I never saw in its prime but have experienced over and over when we worked with each other for a brief and -- to me -- legendary time as ACC Judges. But I want to take the time to acknowledge not just her investment and care in her positions and her attention and time in making this club better for everyone, but also her time and attention as a friend. If someone is low, Erin is there to cheer them on with a carefully crafted doggo meme or a loading gif of their pet. If they need advice or an ear, she will listen with attentiveness and sympathy. She will reach out and check on people when no one else may. She will find it important what others find important.

But most of all, Erin, I would like to say this: for over a decade I fought to make the club a more inclusive, feminist place by taking that charge at the front and enduring all the lashes, stereotyping allegations against my work, and glass ceilings. You were a name I heard of rarely, like other female members of the past, spoken of at the least more kindly than them. And when I actually got to meet you, you were incredible. You still are. You understand. You are an ally in womanhood in a place that was not for women. And it's grown. And it's better. But let it not go unsaid how you were part of that fight, sister. How we are both now in a rare group and so much deserved, to be female Masters in the time after postion-granted auto-ranks. You have endured, and inspired, and I see you.

Thank you. For being so much. For doing so much. And for walking ahead and then standing beside me. All our love and ardor. Congratulations for something long overdue but hopefully not too late.

If I had a nickel for every time I developed some new set of duties and then dumped them in Erin's lap and walked away, I would only have two nickels, but that's two more than I'd have for anybody else.

We don't make new positions often, but when we do, the role is normally defined by the person who first holds the job. Regent was created to manage our possessions system and it went to the guy who created out possessions system. Exarch was created for me to figure out what the Exarch needed to do. Stuff like that.

Emissary didn't work that way. Bubba and I wrote the job description for it and then threw it to the wolves. The wolves turned out to be Qormus, who inaugurated the position but disappeared before implementing any of his plans. So Erin got the worst of both worlds: she didn't get to define what her job was to match her vision, but she did have to figure out how to do it without the benefit of other examples or a trained staff. It takes a special kind of person to do than and actually get anywhere, someone who's capable of looking at the big picture and then arranging the little details to change the macrocosm. Erin came into the Emissary job with the skills and background for a lot of the detail work, but her ability to marry that to a strategic vision is why the Emissary office will outlive her term and continue to fulfill the club's needs for years to come.

As for the other nickel, I'm an analyst by trade and so every problem looks like an analytical problem to me. There are a lot of factors to go into making good decisions as a summit leader or Council member, and I think a key one is that you need to understand the context for your decisions. That's hard to do without data, so I made it a pet project to provide data and analysis on member activity and unit health to club leadership. But like I said, I'm an analyst, not a data scientist or a programmer. Fortunately for the club, Erin has been developing her skillset in both those areas and she's moved from supporting that effort to taking it over altogether and advancing it in ways I couldn't have.

As others, particularly Erin, have pointed out: this promotion has been a long, long time coming. I regret that this rec only really addressed the last nine or twelve months of a long career as an EL1, but I'm glad to see her move into the next chapter of her career.
