What can I say about Edgar Drachen, the Hothfather? Not enough to convey just how deserving he is of this award. I don't think there's anyone else in Hoth more dedicated to the House, its story, and most of all the experience of its members. He's always running competitions (72 since his last medal), writing stories (10,836 words' worth across different platforms), playing games with others (632 matches), and coming up with creative ways to engage others in the life of the House, Clan, and Brotherhood.

Chief among those creative methods of engagement is the recent inter-house Flashpoint event, the first phase of which just concluded a couple weeks ago. Edgar dreamed up the whole thing. He conceived of the idea and its fictional starting point. He gathered up the Summits of both houses and the clan, organizing several meetings for us to flesh out the plotline, develop competition ideas, and incorporate participants' submissions into the wider clan story—something he knew the membership wanted before they had the chance to express it in a post-GJW survey. And, after unfortunate circumstances necessitated his resignation, he gracefully stepped aside to let us noobs run the competitions. Even so, he still answered numerous questions and gave advice when (and only when) we asked for it.

I highlight the collaborative spirit with which he planned the event as well as his support from the sidelines because I think it illustrates leadership qualities worth honoring. It might have been easier for Edgar to come up with the story and write everything up himself—his experience certainly indicates as much—but he took the time to cultivate partnerships and, in so doing, develop leaders with much less experience. He sidestepped a chance to play the "main character" and instead invested in the long-term stability of the Clan. Because of that approach, Phase I of Flashpoint ran successfully even after his resignation from Summit, with over half the House participating in at least one competition and several more Odanites investing in the storyline. Moreover, we are confident about our ability to expand the event into a second phase and epilogue.

On a more personal note, his mentorship has developed me into the leader I am today. Earlier this year, he reached out to me personally to encourage me to apply for aedile. I'd submitted an application for proconsul several months prior, mostly as a lark, but I had no real interest in taking on Summit work again. But he convinced me, and I'm glad he did. Through lots of DMs and long voice chats he taught me lessons like the importance of forging relationships with members, celebrating their accomplishments in a timely manner, keeping our community guidelines front of mind in everything we do as leaders, and most importantly making myself available to have fun with people in the club. I can honestly say without his guidance and friendship, I wouldn't be in Clan Odan-Urr or a leader in any clan.

It is my pleasure to recommend Edgar Drachen for his first Emerald Dagger. Congratulations, and remember there are pills for those with ED.

Edgar served for over a year on the Fist staff, making significant contributions to the Club’s gaming community. During his tenure, he went well beyond simply running competitions. He approved more than 1,100 Gaming Activities, participated in reviewing games for Cluster balancing, and maintained an active presence in voice chat, consistently making himself available to support members and the broader gaming community.

Beyond the administrative work, Edgar was also a valuable resource for members looking to participate in gaming. He regularly provided commentary and guidance, and on multiple occasions identified submission issues and helped members understand how to properly submit their activities and participate in the Gaming Community. His willingness to assist members directly helped make gaming more accessible and approachable for those getting involved.

Turel will speak more about Edgar’s contributions to the Shadow Academy courses, but his work there is another example of the broader impact he had during his time on staff. Edgar consistently demonstrated a willingness to contribute wherever he was needed, whether that meant managing competitions, supporting members, reviewing activities, or helping improve the systems surrounding our gaming community.

An Ed with ED? More likely that you would think. Edgar is a member who is not afraid to speak his mind. I still remember the first time I met him it was as a BT to his Aedile. He asked me to write a Tldr for an email I sent, and then tldr that tldr so he could read it. I have seen over the years, that this is a member who will put House Hoth before himself time and time again. From creating competitions for members, to training up the many Edprentices over the years, he has always been one to try to help out the newer folks in the club, and those in House Hoth. When there was a large change over in leadership in COU, Ed encouraged me to apply. He wanted to make sure that the new leaders got the support they needed.

These days, he is a bit of a grouchy old man, regularly gaming with folks. While, personally, I think he is getting long awaited revenge by flooding my inbox, his activity remains consistently high.
