Maaz is a Devaronian male with dark umber skin, red-tinted eyes and an impish curve to his sharp-toothed smile that gives him what some would consider the classic devilish appearance of his race. His crown is crested with a pair of thick, curved horns that wrap back along his scalp. His impressive height and prodigious build does little to diminish the perception of his monstrous appearance.
Maaz recently accepted enlistment with the Dajorran Defense Forces to serve among the forces of Arcona’s House Galeres. He believed, at the time, that he could make sense of serving such a prestigious House compared to the madness of being a member of the Royal Guard to the Dark Council under Pravus’s rule. He has come to discover, however, that Arcona is a madhouse all its own and he’s just trying to make it day by day until he figures out a way to get away from the insanity that is the Brotherhood.
Having served as a member of the Grand Master's Royal Guard for a number of years, Maaz has no desire to be identified for his actions or achievements. He understands that survival and success outweigh the prestige that many others seek, or the benefits of close allies. While this ensures a low-profile, it also means many among the Brotherhood have no idea who he is and, outside of his former charges, consider him to be unproven in the field.
Maaz has seen some things. He's seen men dismembered, disemboweled, dismantled, and otherwise demolished. He's seen cities razed and planets burned, seen emperors rise and kingdoms fall. And yet, somehow, he still ends up surprised every time the crazy, stupid, super-powered galaxy he seems to live in throws something new at him, be it an even bigger star destroyer, a giant robot, another power-hungry Sith looking for territory or yet another old enemy with a mysterious grudge, or whatever else it might be that week. This has worn down Maaz's patience over the years, and now it's all the man can do to contain the sarcasm and exasperation trying to leap off of his tongue in a wry comment or muttered rant; at least, within earshot of anyone...
Maaz believes wholly in practicality and that trait can be no more easily found than in the equipment he carries: nearly every piece of his gear is salvaged or repurposed from opponents he’s faced in the past. He won’t hesitate to make use of equipment left by fallen allies and foes alike, an attitude that extends outside of combat and can oftentimes set the Devaronian at odds with others as he treats his relationships, personal or otherwise, in the same way. If he feels that a partnership is helpful to his situation he will make the most of it, but when circumstances change he doesn’t hesitate to leave someone, discarding them for the next option available.
Being surrounded by people faster, smarter, better-trained, better-geared and generally just a step ahead of him has given Maaz something of an inferiority complex that cannot be identified any more easily than in his choice of weapons. While trained in close quarters combat, Maaz is most comfortable with a heavy-repeating blaster in his grasp, aiming far downrange from anyone or anything capable of returning fire. When divorced of his favorite weapons, his attitude and demeanor shift to reflect his discomfort.
Maaz has faced Jedi and Sith before; he’s been trained to combat them and has even successfully done so in the past. Despite that, Maaz is no fool when it comes to facing those touched by the Force. If he can avoid doing so, he will, and if he is forced to do so he will often do anything he can to create an advantage against them. While physically a match, mentally Maaz is susceptible to many of the mental talents his opponents bear.
