It may be a good idea to come up with some specific questions to ask; it's not always easy to come up with a satisfactory response to "I don't understand".
Think about precisely what you don't understand, and ask about that.

Uh... 8 PM GMT is 3 PM EST. Since most people are in the US, most people are either still in school or are at work at this time.
Yeah well did it occur to anyone that maybe Mairin is trying her best to resolve the wargame as quickly as possible?
If you weren't going to be on #IRC, you should have told someone else in your clan (who would be on at that time) to ask your question for you.
It's no small secret that the Dark Council is going to Hell in a hand basket. The DC can't get along half the time and it's killing the club. You all bicker like little children and everyone is sick of it. You should all resign. Seriously.
