Nightmare Squadron Report

This is my first official report since I assumed command of Nightmare squadron. Sorry for the delay in reporting our progress but I wanted to try and assess how things were and try and set things out in my own mind before outlining any official plans. As you know I sent an email to the calm mailing list some time ago, asking that people report in to me. It is a source of regret to me that so far I have only received two responses. If this unit is to be a success every one needs to start working as a team, I could lay on competitions and the like at this stage but we are not ready to start doing those yet. And what we are capable of doing I class as “busy work” that few would do anyway. Here is a rundown of plans that are in the works at the moment: Firstly I plan to update the squadron web page but before we can do that we need new graphics. So I’ve set our first competition, it’s open to all you art people out there (details on the db page competition section). I had planed to appoint new flight leaders by now but this is difficult as I have yet to get to know the unit. So II have no idea who’s capable of command yet, that’s why I need you all to REPORT IN/. In short we need the best people for the job not roster filler that dose the unit no favours in the long term.

I have managed to appoint one flight leader Phoenix, his record and exp make him more that qualified for that job. I will be working closely with him in the coming days so congratulations to him.

Now I’d like to take a moment to discuss gaming I know a lot of you don’t have any of the star wars space combat sims and before you start ranting that platforms don’t matter any more I’d like to remind you all that a pilot that can’t fly is rather redundant. Anyway I plan to of set that problem in a number of ways. First I’d like you all to sign up to the acc so we can have battles in the space combat hall/ I also plan to make extensive use of the free game Allegiance (those that need details on this can mail and ask me, or find me on IRC). I’d also like to start developing the rp side of things, holding run-on’s and perhaps some cross training in the future. That said the main point of a squadron is to fly and I’d like that to be out main focus. I will appoint the last flight leader when people have reported in and given me something to work with.

In closeting I want to see people active, if you have any questions or suggestions talk to me about them. I know that a lot of you are taking exams in the SA and that’s good but we need to start thinking of the unit and not just personal advancement.
