meh. Apologies for no report the last two weeks. Pyr even had to remind me for this one. I just get so into everything else that I forget the basics are important.
Well, for those of you who don't know: I've been at home the last 5 days and will be for the next 2 weeks as well. That is the reason for my lacking IRC presence. I've been getting on when my padres go to sleep, but other than that, man, there's not much time for it. They've been working me to death. My mom is using my wedding as an excuse to spend my dad's money. They're re-painting and re-carpeting the whole second floor of the house, and I'm their labor slave. The first three days I was here I mulched the whole front yard, started painting two rooms and moved the furniture out of two more. My family is a bunch of pack rats, so the last job was a bitch. Oh well.
We've been getting lot of wedding shiot done this week. Appointment with Cake lady. Appointment with Photographer. Appointment with reception place. Appointment with priest. Actually -- that was kinda cool. I'm catholic, but a bad one, and it was interesting learning a few things from the priest. He was the first clergyman that I have ever heard say that evolution is real -- laying to rest one of the problems I have with my faith. We went over a bunch of other stuff. it was interesting, to say the least. But-- we've been just finalizing stuff otherwise. Tons o fun.
I've been getting on the computer in random spurts. I'm relying on the fact that I'll have more time next week for it. The fiancee is going back up to school and my parents will still be at work. I'm going to use that time to work on a lot of DB stuff while not under my parents nagging eyes.
Anyway -- thing are going well, I guess.

The last couple days have been filled with the very best of the DB and the very worst. It's amazing how some changes are applauded whole-heartedly by some and considered the end of the world by others. The merge, for instance, drew a bunch of private emails that said the DC was a bunch of geniouses. Quite obviously, it also drew the scorn of a few members. It really just goes without saying these days: the DC can never do anything completely right. Someone's always going to be pissed.
It's discouraging at times. Why do we keep going when we get shit for everything? I'll tell you why: 370 positioned members in 3 days. 250 of that in less than 30 hours.
When you get down to the heart of it, to what is real and true, we're doing something right. I started the Super AWOL fully content to see a roster below 300. I would have been happy with that. I was estatic to see our numbers surpass that in the first day. It hasn't been done much before, but I doubt that there has been a time in this club's history where this many members were 48-72 hours out from email. Even at the time of the split, it took a long time for our numbers to get this high.
I get my confidence from this. I see it as a mandate for moving forward with what we have been doing for the past six months. My decisions may piss you off at times, but no one can challenge the fact that the DB is working and growning. Just look at the EHDB ascomparison. Look at their 13 people who submitted the join form last week as compared to our 150. We're doing things right.
I'm encouraged by all of this and you should be to. There are new doors for increased opportunity and activity opening in the DB every day. I plan to keep utilizing all of the potential we have until we are where we need to be.

Kaek told me the other day that it was the best day of his DB career. The Super AWOL had started, and Kaek would soon be allowed to start deleting dossiers. It's his favorite past time, and I could definately feel the excitement. He said at one pont that the only thing that could make the day better was if he got promoted. I said to myself "if only you knew."
There have been 4-5 people come to me in the past week that have stated that Kaek deserved to be promoted. I myself have noted on more than one occasion that Kaek needed it. I am more than happy today to act on all of those requests.
Kaek first jumped on the scene in front of me a few months ago when Corran Force resigned. I did not know him well at all, but had heard good things through Mav and others. I have to say, after reading his MAA application and talking with him, I admired his enthusiasm, work ethic and personality. Kaek is a one-of-a-kind asset in this club. He has a vision unlike many others in that he knows what needs to be done in his position to take it to the next level. For example, Kaek is now working on a very detailed MAA manual that will help in transitions of future MAAs. He is making it so detailed that any peron who can read should be able to do the job after going through it. As P:MAA, Kaek is always timely. He does not wait to respond to emails. he is always thorough when examining requests. Along side Khan, Kaek helps to make a very strong MAA office. They are fair, formal and fast. Kaek has a large part of that to his credit.
It's not all P:MAA for Kaek, though. The man works hard as Proconsul of Arcona as well. Consul Halcyon agrees that Kaek deserves a promotion. He has been influential in communicating with members and running events in the clan. He is able to hold a hard position of PCON while also juggling the duties of P:MAA. It's truly a task for the strong.
Truly a testament to the way Kaek works was the Super AWOL check. In order to send out the 2700 emails to the members, we needed to send 200 every half hour so as to not get marked as spammers. Kaek volunteered without me asking and gave an entire day to the job. When I had to leave early he did not complain, but instead took over the task with enthusiasm. That to me was the mark of a truly dedicated leader.
I cannot think of a person more deserving of a promotion today. Thus, it is my distinct pleasure to elevate Kaek to the rank of Sith Overlord. Congratulations, and thanks!

There are only a few more designs left to build until we have a completely new set of merit awards. Cyris just completed and sent to me the other day the final design for the new Emeral Dagger. HUGE Props to Cyris for this and all of the other designs. I love the fresh new look. It's been needed for a long time. Please say thanks when you see him!

Reminder to everyone: IF YOU HAVE NOT LOGGED INTO THE SITE, YOU ARE RISKING HAVING YOUR DOSSIER DELETED ON JULY 14
Here's the policy and rundown on what is going to happen on July 14. All members who have logged into the site at least once by that time will be safe. Their dossiers will not be touched. Anyone who has not logged in and is BELOW the rank of DJK will be deleted. This included deleting their history, medals, ACC stuff, everything. I will have a backup of the database just in case, but for the most part, restoration of dossiers that have been deleted will not be allowed. For people above DJK, the dossiers will not be deleted, but rather will be set ot invisible. These dossiers will be marked to show that they did not log in during this purge. The next time we do an AWOL check like this (a year from now, maybe) if they have still not logged in, and they are marked from this purge, they will be deleted. Easy enough?
In other news, in order to run the AWOL check I had to build a really nifty script. Basically, it's a mail merge script. It was easy to do, but I had never really though of how to implement it before. I am hoping to build a public version of it for the new website. In this, a leader will be able to send personalized emails out to clan members without having to write them all out. If you are familiar with how mail merges work, I did it in the same way. { {NAME}} indicated that the script should insert the member's name. { {DOSSIER NUMBER}} and { {RANK}} were implemented as well. I think it will open up some good possibilities in the future.

Quick update on a project that's been out here for a while: The Dark Covenant and the Decrees. For those of you who do not know, the Dark Covenant and Decree system are going to be the policy-system of the DB. It will replace the DSC as the primary source of relavant information on how we run the club. The DSC will remain, but in a fictional set up.
The Dark Covenant itself is finished 99%. It's on revision 3.1 and I think we need to go through it one last time before we put it out to the DC to be ratified. The main things that still need some work are the CoJ system and the GM replacement system. I hope to have that all done soon.
The newest version of the Covenant is a skeleton of the original version that a lot of people saw. It was determined that in order for the system to truly work, the things that are permanent to the club need to be separated from the everyday policy. Policies such as "Requirements for serving as a Clan Envoy" won't be found in the covenant. Instead, the Covenant expains that there is an Envoy system and then the decrees will explain the details.
The decree system is set up to work much like a knowldge base on a computer would. Policies have titles that, when finished, members will be ale to search through to find the relevant information. The decrees are organized by Covenant section and subsection, making navigation easy when one knows the covenant.
Pyralis has been helping me with the initial set-up for the Decrees. it's hard getting started on all of this because there is so much in the DB that has never written down and is taken forgranted due to it being second-nature to us olf fogies. When we are done, though, if someone reads the whole decree system, there will not be a piece of information that they do not know about this club.
To get to the point of this post: In the next couple weeks, the Dark Council members are going to be working hard on getting the decrees for their offices ready. It will be a long process, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Aside from the Decrees, the Dark Council members are also working on position manuals. these are overviews of their positions, including duties, checklists, and commentary. They will be oen to the public so anyone can read about each position and what it does. They will hopefully help a lot in the transition of Dark Council members.
In this project, though, is the need for some more detailed ammendums to the handbooks. Each handbook will be attached with the specific information on how to perform each task that is required by the job. Pyralis, being done with his part of the decree system, is moving on to working on this. We have chosen to call it:
Alacrity of the Commander
An extensive guide to the operative specifics of command...
In this, Pyralis will be writing out a lot of the guides to the basic everyday duties of leaders in the club. he is going to start with the bar basics and work his way up to the more complicated tasks. Among some of the ammendums now are the following:
How do I design/start/advertise/run/award a competition?
How do I bring new members to my unit?
How do I welcome new members to my unit?
How/When do I evaluate my unitÂ’s progress?
These may seem like nothing to you, but believe me, everyone is going to learn something from these.
i'll keep posting updates on this. Thank Pyralis for his help here. he's doing a great service to the DB.

This has been a quiet week on the Rebirth front due to my preoccupation with some other things. The merger of CEK and CSK took up a lot of my time and the Super AWOL did as well. I haven't had the chance to update and fill in the calendar in 4-5 days. I intend to do that asap. Here are some things you may not have heard:
The initial phases of the inventory collection project are all finishing. Arania has had her team working hard at collecting items. They are working on proofing those now and moving onto races.
Goat and his team have come up with an initial list of parts for ships in the inventory system
Muz designed a look and feel template for the inventory system. It will be a lot like the KOTOR system
A policy has been made on how to deal with member names when they join. telona has provided us with a list of Star Wars names and we have devised a plan on how best to keep people from being Billy Skywalker. CG is implementing this into the new Join form.
Spears has made a lot of progress on the new ToL and has sent it to the OLs for review
Rekio has supplied me with some great ideas for the Rebirth Tour of Duty System. He and I are discussing those
Korras has ompiled information for out new gaming info page. I just need to HTMLize it all
Pyralis has created an launched a new ICTE site
Jam3z created a new constans library for the new site. This will help us keep the code much cleaner and readable.
Aerick has uploaded the new dominion system. Mav will be getting that going soon.
I have been hard at work on the soter admin section. It's running behind schedule, but I don't foresee a problem finishing it and the rest in time.

One comment on the purging system. Perhaps there should be an option to allow for people to "permanately retire", beyond simply going Rogue. This would be ideal for those who've left the online community, but still allow a historic record of members past of the DB. Coming back to an active status should be nearly impossible, to allow a real sense of "past" to the list, but prevent peoples histories from being lost.
I aggree compleately with thor, it would be a great idea maybe it should be included in the rebirth if nothing else
Congrats Kaek :)
Teh Purge!
Purge... Sounds... Interesting....
For the "retiring" thing, maybe if it was only open to those who have held a postition or reached the rank of DJK. I woudnt want to look through a list of past members only to find that 95% of them are APPs or NOVs. But something like: Click to veiw those who have held the postition of AED of House (insert house here) in the past. That would be cool, and I dont think it would be too hard to set up.
Woowoo for GM reports.
