</td> </tr> <tr> <td> This Week: Championships and Titles</td> </tr> <tr> <td> The PCHL kicked off yesterday morning; which came right on the heels of some updates to the ACC Databanks: Spacecraft section, courtesy of the green-haired Master, you all know and love...Halcyon. He added a few more fighters, some more transports and some more capital ships...yay! Though, if the databanks section gets any bigger - we might have to get another server :P Okay, not true... </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> The CHL is still in signups, with only 19 people signed up. Unfortunately, I don't see it getting to the next 'level' (32) so we'll have to finagle something. Y'see, the ladder system works a specific way to get down to 1 fighter. I forget what the 'math' term is, but it starts at 8 and goes 16, 32, 64, 128 etc all multiples of 8 - any other numbers and you end up with stragglers who get "by" to the next round without fighting. No. It's not a coding problem - it's a mathematical fact - I suck stones at math, but I know that much. This is the first CHL, since I've been CM (actually, there was only 1 other CHL between all the previous CM's and that was when the Centre opened), that we didn't have over 32 participants and had to tell people to stop signing up and remove a few - so, I'm gonna come up with something to make this happen as fair as possible. So far, my ideas have involved getting the ladder to those 'perfect' numbers and may end up being a little unconventional. Of course, the ACC has no precedent; so I need to make sure that what we end up with, wasn't arrived at in too complicated a manner as not to be easily repeatable. It is looking like there might be a CHL preliminary round. Those of you who've been in the CHL's before know that the field isn't really set until the 2nd or 3rd round - meaning; the first round and parts of the 2nd, weed out the folks who realize they don't have the chops and quit, usually by timing out. So, I may use that to my advantage and set up a preliminary; consisting of 6-8 person ladders, with 4+2 battles in an effort to dump the field to a manageable level - then kick off the 'actual' CHL. With that, not everyone would need to fight in a preliminary - RHIP (rank has it's privileges) on this one, folks. Bottom to top - via ACC rank; not DB rank - will set up the first preliminaries. In the case of equal ACC ranking, win/loss will be next, then DB rank...in that order. Now - here's the kicker; right at this moment, I only need to drop 3 (that might change if others sign up), so the first three that 'lose' will stop the preliminaries and the official CHL would begin. Don't freak out :P This is just an idea right now - the signups will still be open for a bit longer; but I'm letting you know where we stand and what our potential conflict will be.
Now, on a 'future' note - and I mentioned this a LONG time ago - this CHL possibly marks the downward spiral of interest in the CHL's, which means we're not going to beat a dead horse. DJM Halcyon's new system will most likely go into effect after this CHL (more on what that was as we get closer) and lead me toward the Supreme Championship Ladder. But Dalthid, you said that you were going to have 4 Champions first? Well, we do...including me :) If we go this direction, I will drop my SCH title and get put into the mix with Vessicant, Muz and the winner of the 3rd CHL - that gives us 4. Yep - it's a cheezy way of doing it, but if I have to 'beg' for folks to sign up for a CHL, then it's time to call it a day - wouldn't you agree? The CHL's won't cease to exist - but the new system is far more difficult in many ways and, as I've said, the only folks who can even attempt to attain Supreme Champion status are Champions and there can be only 1 SCH.
Now - future, future - there are three more 'titles' that will enter the ACC before my string of naming sh*t is over; one set will be for ACCLive! and based directly off of the tournament process; there will be a 'champion' equivalent and a 'supreme' equivalent, in much the same fashion as the rest; Ground = Champion, Supreme Champion; Space = Ace, Baron; Live! = XXXX and XXXX <<<yea, still working on the titles. "Champion" for the ground combat has the feel of gladiator type stuff, which I like and will keep - but 'supreme' feels a bit inflated - we'll prolly keep it, but the third and final 'title' will encompass all three areas; Ground, Space and Live! so I have to come up with something that sounds bigger than 'supreme'. I was thinking of pushing up "Champion" to the top of the ground stuff, adding a lower one and pushing Supreme to the pinnacle - but I'll let you know if I do that :) Anyway, the 'new' top title of the ACC will require possession of, at least, the three other titles as a prerequisite; CH, ACE and the Live! one. Meh - if anyone's got good title names floating around in their head -shoot'em to me :) </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> The ACCLive! Tournament</td> </tr> <tr> <td> Round 3 is this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. The bracket can be seen in the ACCLive! Ladder sub-hall of the Live main hall, here; http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.org/dbjedi/acc/hall.asp?id=63
Just a couple of reminders:
One round per weekend (rematches due to unforeseen circumstances will be handled during the following week, before the next round begins, Contact Kat Pridemore) - Round 3 must be fought this weekend (Oct 21 & 22) For this round, the top member of each pairing on the bracket (the member literally displayed on the top of the pairing) is responsible for first contact to set up the match (the other can do it, but the top is 'responsible', it's best to CC Kat Pridemore when making challenges). - Members were mailed on Thursday to remind them.
If the fight fails to occur, the bottom member of the pairing wins by default, unless it can be shown that an attempt to contact was made and/or ignored (hence, best to CC Kat Pridemore when making challenges)
