CNS Consul Report #23 - December 23rd, 2006

Heh. Once again, Report #23 falls on the 23rd. Report #18 was on November 18th. I find that remarkable.

1. Introduction
   

Lanius Sin was promoted to Sith Warrior and Raven was promoted to Krath Priest. I wanted to talk about this a little bit. What is remarkable is that both of these members were low-key, and they were doing work that was beneficial to the DB behind the scenes. They represent an evolutionary, rather than a revolutionary, approach to the DB, and that is something I like.

I'm bringing this up because in my IRL job, there has been talk about completely changing course in another division's area (not mine), and I honestly don't know if that's really the best policy. In the workplace, if you have something that works, then there's no point in changing it. I know people like to come in and say, "I'm going to revolutionize everything, I'm going to make it awesome, I'm going to change things." In many cases though, things aren't that bad. They can be made better with incremental changes that utilize existing resources. Because, by completely changing course, you're telling people, "Screw you guys, your work isn't valuable."

But when someone's been doing a job for a long time, when people have spent years creating something, to say, "There's a problem here, and we need to change course," it's just insulting. It makes me sad. I sometimes worry that in 20 years, some young upstart is going to come around and say, "Hey old man, old is out, and new is cool!"

What I find so wonderful about the DB Wiki project, especially as far as CNS is concerned, is that we have old and new members alike, working together, in a noncompetitive fashion, to make something better, with obvious results. It almost makes me want to cry. And if you have a problem with that, you can just shut up. :P

1. Dark Voice Newsletter
   

As always, this clan provides good articles for the Dark Voice. This month, Macron, Mifune, and Imperial (who wrote the clan news blurb) participated. Next month I will be looking for another member of Clan Naga Sadow to write the clan news blurb in a future Dark Voice.

1. House Feud
   

The House Feud is officially over at this point. Kat Pridemore and I have finished grading the long fiction event today. Actually, to our knowledge there were only two participants, both from HMR, so they pretty much swept that event. This House Feud might be closer than a lot of people thought it would be, and that's really what I'm hoping for.

We only have to grade the run-on at this point.

1. Gaming
   

For Sunday Gaming, Xayun got 3 CFs.

For Thursday Gaming, Aticus got 9 CFs, Xayun got 2 CFs, and Mordaki got 2 CFs. Actually, I noticed Mordaki on Kr'Tal today. I should have said hello. Oh well. I was very tired.

1. I got 1000 CFs
   

But the big news, is that with today's ICTE, I finally reached my goal of 1000 CFs by the end of 2006. Kinda funny how there's about a week left and I reached my goal so close to the end. It kinda helped that today's ICTE was double CFs.

So there you have it. Your glorious Consul has shown that yes, if you have a dream, whether it involve becoming the President of the United States or getting 1000 CFs, it is possible. I would write a separate email to glorify this occasion, but I think I've sent enough spam.
