DB vs Ricco - Justicar's Opinion _

The Justicar received the initial complaint from the Deputy Grand Master, who had been informed about the misuse of a PIN for a Great Jedi War submission. This aroused suspicion and the Deputy asked the Chamber to investigate the situation.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the defendant had multiple IP matches with four separate Brotherhood. One of them had registered with the Justicar as having a shared IP with the defendant, but none of the others had. Two of the clones were in the rogues, while one was clanned. The Chamber then moved forward and charged the defendant with three counts of cloning.

The defendant plead guilty to two counts for the two clones that were rogue, and plead not guilty for the clone that had been in a clan. The Chamber determined that the possible sentence would meet the terms of Covenant section 8.03H, so an automatic Trial by Justicar was initiated. The Chamber convened and examined the evidence, which included 39 independent IP matches between the defendant and the clone. The Chamber then determined the defendant was guilty of cloning this member.

The Chamber then moved to the sentencing phase. The defendant had created three clones, and had used one of them to gain Great Jedi War points for his clan. Therefore, all GJW points earned by the clone and by the defendant himself would be removed. In addition, the defendant was demoted to Dark Jedi Knight, received a Letter of Reprimand, and six months probation.

Signed and Sealed in Justice,

Dark Jedi Master Kir Taldrya Katarn

Justicar and High Protector of the Dark Brotherhood

I'd only like to say well done to the Chamber of Justice in this case, and I'm pretty shocked Ricco did this to get some points, he seemed like an ok guy. It's a real shame.

It's always the kid who gave away his cookie to the less fortunate... and couldn't spell. In this case, the kid who couldn't spell and was the tribune of fiction.

Wow, Cloning is something we have not seen happen in a while. This member began his career as a dark jedi with a promising possible future leadership, better than most members. I can only wonder if he was aware of our laws as far as cloning goes?

I find it a shame that this case was not kept behind closed doors and punishment could of been kept secret among the DC, how ever it only proves that Kir is truly keeping it fair and that justice in the BD is in fact blind.

Raid.. I suggest you read up. a few months ago, someone else was convicted for cloning too.

also, you regret this wasn't kept secret? for one, how will you keep a demotion secret? second.. yeah, good idea, keeping convictions secret. and in case you didn't notice: yes, that second point was sarcasm.

I find it kind of insulting, to be honest, that ANYONE would be considered "good enough to keep their crimes secret." It demeans everything others do that is beneficial and innocent in this Club to say someone else should be treated different "because they could've gone somewhere." There is no doubt in my mind that Ricco was aware of our cloning laws. Everyone is, or should be, aware of them, especially if you want leadership positions, or ever think you may end up in a leadership position.

As Consul, I make it my commitment to try and be familiar with all of our rules and regulations, not only for my own actions, but to better direct and assist my Clan's members. And I know I'm not the only one. I'm sure all, or nearly all, of the other Consuls and greater leadership positions have made the same commitment.

No one is "above the rest" in this Club, not even Sarin. We are all equals. We are all members of this Club, we all have an equal stake in this Club. This is not "The DC presents: The Dark Jedi Brotherhood." Every member makes up this Club, every member creates it. If even Sarin were ever found to have committed an offense against the members, if I ever committed an offense against the members, both of us would be hung out to dry. And I can tell you that, if that ever happened to Sarin, myself, or anyone else in our kind of position, I would expect to be hung out to dry, because it shows the members that we are ALL equal, that NO ONE is above our rules, and everyone will be treated and punished in the same manner justly.

To say otherwise is an insult.

It’s to bad Ricco didn’t feel the need to address this charge, to apologize or possibly explain. It would have given him the chance to maintain some dignity here.

Either way, Oberst for FIC Trib! >.<

Wow. I'm a few posts back, but keeping things behind closed doors? Seriously?

I'm sure Michael Vick will have your back, but that seems horribly inappropriate here. This will likely be deleted, since the powers that be don't like conversation on the newspage. i.e. behind closed doors. Until this comment gets behind those doors, things are what they are. Cloning, cheating, stealing, copying, killing dogs...all should be punishable, and why not as a matter of public record? In Soviet Russia, secrecy may pwn all, but that's kinda gone now. If we all can't man up and deal with what we do, then maybe...just maybe, we shouldn't have done it in the first place.

Malidir, it's not that we want this sort of stuff to happen behind closed doors. We need accountability in our justice system...accountability and transparency. And in general, the deletion and such of posts on the news page are because they are not appropriate for here, and often pushed off toward the forums, where discussions like that belong.

Muz, I'm not blaming or accusing anyone...I'm just responding to comments. I agree with what you're saying.

  1. You guys do realize that Raid doesn't speak for the DC and that Kir has been totally open about this, right? Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see what the fuss is about here. The CoJ has a full disclosure policy on the results of cases...Kir followed that....uh...end of discussion?

This disclosure is mandated by the Covenant and that's not likely to change:

8.03(l): Upon conclusion of the trial, the Justicar shall post the results in a Chamber of Justice Communique. This Communique shall contain a summary of the trial, the result, and the Justicar's opinion. For cases decided by Justicar, this opinion shall contain official explanation for the Chamber's decision. For cases decided by jury, it will contain the reasons for the specific sentence and any other comments the Chamber wishes to include.

  1. Maladir -- Go to the message boards and find the topic regarding the Envoy system and the Blade/Khobai CoJ case. I hope that fits your definition of behind closed doors. :P

The DC directs conversation to the message board because that's what the message boards are made for: discussion. In two days, this news post will be dropped to the bottom of the website where no one will see it (it's already pushed way down). In seven days it won't even show up on the page without manually accessing the archives. On a message board, a person can see the topic months later just by searching for hot topics or clicking on the new posts link. A conversation can continue beyond the very short life of a news post and can be much more productive there.

It has absolutely nothing to do with stifling discussion. Rethink your conspiracy theory, please.

Malidir.
