Quaestor Report

Ok, time for a Quaestor’s rant. Why do some people who don’t do anything productive for this club feel it is necessary to complain about everything and everyone?

This is supposed to be fun…right? I mean, I don’t get paid to do what I do. But I am still here, doing my best to ensure others have fun, sometimes at the expense of my own fun.

I had a discussion with someone earlier this week. They stated that our standards and principles were lacking. That if we didn’t demand more from the newer members we would fail.

I have known other people in the DB with the opposite view point. Have fun things for them to do and laugh and talk about random things and just be silly and everything will be hunky-dory (Yeah, I said hunky-dory :-P).

Is one extreme better then the other?

It should not take someone from the day the joined over a year to get to knight. Yet we find it happening more these days. So what’s the answer? Do we come down harder and ‘force’ them to do more? Do we lighten up and let them do what they want when they want?

I’m still all for the happy medium. If you just hand it to them and they don’t have to work for it, it means nothing. They get to DJK and go, ‘Well, that was fun. Think I’ll go play WOW or Halo now.” And we end up without any new leaders for the future.

But if we demand more from them, they are just going say, ‘Well, piss on you!’ and leave to go play WOW or Halo anyway.

Being a leader in this club means sacrifice. Those that get positions, do the minimum required then leave after a promotion for no apparent reason have no place in leadership.

It’s not what it will get you but what you can do for the club.

It also means working with a multitude of people with different methods and different personalities. And we as leaders need to remember that. We are in these positions to promote a positive change for our Clan; we are here to serve the members, not the other way around.
