<p>I guess the biggest Clan-wide news is that the Bryar Bowl is ongoing. Round One wraps up in less than 24 hours so if you haven't gotten your match in by now, you should hurry up and get on with it. Round Two will begin tomorrow (Monday) evening.

<p>Congratulations to the Murder Mystery League team from Taldryan! Our crew got 2nd place which is pretty swank. Just a reminder for our newer members, competing in club-wide competitions is an excellent way to earn promotions.

<p>Headmaster Anshar has posted the third phase of the Shadow Academy Degree program. Check out his post on the DJB.org news page to see if you qualify for this latest degree. Taking the three (Order) Core exams is a good way to get familiar with a lot Brotherhood history and what not.

<p>You all should have received my e-group mailing last night concerning the two October competitions running right now (EPIC Education & Epic Wiki Writing). Check that e-mail for details.

<p>I wanted to use this space today to tell you a bit of a story aimed more or less at our newer/younger members but I'm sure everyone will enjoy it. This past week we had a member transfer out of the House and Clan - such events happen on a regular basis and are usually of no concern. This one is a bit different ...

<p>I won't reveal this member's name, but he was someone who came back to Tal after a stint in the Rogues - holding the rank of Jedi Hunter, his sights were set on the rank of Dark Jedi Knight, a rank which most members strive for and few achieve. Several weeks after his return to the Clan he was wondering when he would be promoted ... now in these few weeks he had done scant little activity and a promotion to Dark Jedi Knight would take six months of solid activity, since the DJK promotion is one of the more major accomplishments in this club.

<p>Still, he complained that this was too long and his activity before he went inactive before should be enough especially since he had waited so long. Normally this would not be sufficient but I gave this member the benefit of the doubt and shaved two months off my estimate if he put in the activity.

<p>He wasn't pleased, but he agreed. About a week later I was not surprised to see a transfer request in my inbox from this very same member - he said things had "changed too much" since he was last in Taldryan ... a poor lie and cover. There is little doubt that this member transferred to a different Clan so he could possible get his promotion to Dark Jedi Knight a little quicker. Talk about a poor sense of loyalty.

<p>Loyalty is an interesting word. I have been involved in a number of clubs in the past four or five years that operate much like this club and have held many different leadership positions. Taldryan is without a doubt the closest group of individuals I have been involved with in my five years of belonging to internet Star Wars clubs. There is a reason why we win every single club-wide competition - its because we come together and support one another.

<p>Taldryan isn't like other Clans who dole out medals and promotions so easily - just like in real life you have to work hard to get ahead. Granted we are here to have fun - but I've noticed an increasingly large number of new members who are only after one thing - virtual/fictional promotions and medals. This club (and Clan for that matter) is more than just promotions and medals - its about growing as a person.
