INTRODUCTION:
My first report of the new year, 2008!
In case you didn't know, I OMFGWTFPWND the two sessions of trivia on IRC in #shadowacademy last Sunday. Yea, that was about all that happened... Just kidding! A lot has happened in the first two weeks of the new year! What a killer way to start 2008.

1) Merit medals for Reclamation participation/pwnage have been awarded! Although they're a bit late, better late than never, right? House Acclivis Draco saw six of its members be awarded: Impetus, Anga, Gavan, Timbal, Natth, and myself. Congratulations!

HOUSE NEWS:
1) Applications are still open for the two available Battleteam Leader spots until January 17, 2008! The two reopening Battleteams are Ebon Cloak and Dragon Guard. The Ebon Cloak Battleteam is designed to encourage/train/guide new, promising, members, while taking off some of the load from your House Summit's shoulders. The Dragon Guard Battleteam is designed to stimulate/encourage/give-opportunities-for activity for slightly "older" members.

The Rite of Cursed Prelation

The members of House Acclivis Draco had been summoned into the Hall of the Dragon late at night. Most were either still sleepy or fidgety from taking too many energy pills after they had gotten the call. It was unusual for Quaestor RevengeX to summon every Dark Jedi on Antenora to attend a meeting. If it was that senile, cynical old bat, Cuchulain, or something, it was understandable. But if it was RevengeX, surely there must be something amiss...
Backstage, as he waited for the members of the House to settle down and get into seats, the Epis paced back and forth, his hands waving about in strange patterns as his lips moved and muttered indecipherable syllables. He was nervous, but that was to be expected before something as significant as this. Luckily, no one else was backstage with him to witness his explicit anxiety. He took several deep breaths as his cloak swished about his ankles.
It was time.
The curtains drew backwards dramatically with a wave of the Quaestor's right hand. Using the Force in a superfluous way was both relaxing and internally warming, even though Antenora's desert heat poured through every crack in the walls of the Dragon's Citadel. Silence engulfed the audience, darkness obscured his family members from view, and a lone spotlight drew compelling shadows from his figure. Within a few moments, his fellow Son of Palpatine, his right-hand man, Cuchulain Darkblade Palpatine, took position behind him silently.
"Tonight, I have the honor of being the first Quaestor of our House to conduct the first elevation within the Order of the Dragon. Tonight, I will be the first Quaestor to conduct the Rite of Cursed Prelation."
His shrouded gaze pierced the members of the audience like an arrow efficiently sliding through the bulls-eye on a target. They had never heard of the so-called "Rite of Prelation" or what it did. For all they knew, he was going to destroy the entire building.
Most think that I am simply being bombastic. He sneered.
"Archpriestess Impetus Korin. Daughter of Palpatine. Come to my side." The Quaestor motioned to a spot to his right and slightly in front of him.
From the very first row, closest to the stage, the yellow-skinned Twi'lek gracefully slid out of her seat, despite her husband's frightened glances, and walked to RevengeX's side to face the audience. Fear glistened off her skin and from her eyes. Fear permeated through her lekku and into the thick, convoluted atmosphere of the auditorium. Both RevengeX and Cuchulain could feel her fear, and they bathed in it.
"There is nothing to fear, Impetus," Revenge cooed; his voice, barely sarcastic, attempted to soothe her. From the folds of his robe, he pulled out a small purple velvet box, trimmed in an interweaving design of gold and platinum.
"I present this ring to you." Instantly, Ararin stood up with his eyes flashing angrily. "No, it is not an engagement ring, you idiot." Ararin suddenly collapsed into his seat. His eyes rolled and then closed and his tongue hung out the side of his mouth.
Impetus cautiously opened the box. Inside, a small, delicate ring lay waiting. It smelled like roses and looked like extravagant compared to its container. The Archpriestess flicked her eyes at the Quaestor, and then back down at the golden band, which was inlaid with amethysts and diamonds. She picked it up, and the box snapped shut behind it.
"Archpriestess Korin, I must warn you... this ring is a cursed ring. Its powers hold untold mysteries and, although it is beautiful, its venom has been able to seduce and completely destroy all of its previous wearers. If you survive its crooked dagger... you would be the first. According to our studies, if you survive, the ring will lose its curse." RevengeX laughed; his chuckles echoed throughout the entire auditorium over the silent, staring crowd. "Put it on and see if you will live... or prepare to wed death."
The Twi'lek slid the ring on her finger, a look of triumph and fearlessness etched across her smooth face. At first, there was nothing. She allowed a small smile to cross her lips and eyes. Had RevengeX been bluffing?
Then, there was a small tingling sensation in her finger. Before she could think about taking the ring off, the feeling expanded to her hand. Less than half of a second later, her entire arm was shaking uncontrollably. She opened her mouth to scream, but she immediately felt her vocal chords blocked by an unknown force that emanated from the ring. An entire half of her body began to tremble and then her legs, as wobbly as gelatin, fell underneath her, and her back smacked into the wooden stage.
She willed tears to flow, but the ring prevented her. They were forcing the pain, the misery, the unbearable agony, to build up inside her... thus denying her any chance of catharsis. Spasms ripped through her entire body now, making her seem as if she was performing some kind of dance.
The Quaestor, who stood above her, watching, cackled. He was enjoying it... loving it, even.
A wave of anger, of hatred, of desire to wipe that stupid, sarcastic smile, washed over the agonized Impetus. The power of the Dark Side flew through her veins like an addictive drug, and she could feel its gelid texture empowering her. Even though her head was spinning and her vision was blurry, she could see the Epis' face loom above her... still laughing. Laughing, laughing... laughing like an egocentric maniac. Her face contorted in rage and pain, and the ring's sharp, imaginary, needles became dull and less pronounced. Without knowing it, she let out a scream - a scream of anger, not pain.
And then, there was only darkness.
RevengeX exhaled deeply. Through the Force, he could sense that Impetus was still breathing, that she had defeated the ring's curse in a public performance of willpower and submission to the Dark Side. He casually lifted her body with an invisible hand and moved it backstage, where she would be waiting unconsciously. His voice was a mere whisper, but every individual in the audience could hear him clearly.
"Let it be known that Krath Archpriestess Impetus Korin, Daughter of Palpatine, Order of the Dragon: Third Class... is now to be referred to as Krath Archpriestess Impetus Korin, Daughter of Palpatine, Order of the Dragon: Second Class."
<span style="margin-left: 1cm; color: #DEDEDE;">[OOC: In case you couldn't figure it out on your own, I have "promoted" Impetus to become a second-class member of the Order of the Dragon. Even if Imp transfers out of the House, she will retain that title forever. Now, the other story...]</span>
HOUSE DIRECTION:
I'm sure that all of you (who actually read my New Year's Address) are all tired of hearing my guttural nonsense, so I'll make this to the point.
Make our House look good. It's your House, it's my House, it's our House. Make it pretty, and don't make other people think it's ugly... because it really isn't. Don't think it's ugly, either... because it really isn't. Our House is gorgeous, and everybody else is jealous.
Make a good impression, for yourself, for your House, and for your Clan.
In the coming month, I intend to come up with some kind of central idea that we can all revolve around. If there's one thing that is missing, it's some kind of... theme. This occurred to me shortly before I had a conversation concerning training Battleteams.

I'm still going through some final ideas. Remember that induction into the Order is now bi-monthly... but may become tri-monthly, if I deem it necessary.
A draft of the House Facilities document is sitting on Phoenix and Lucien's desk. They're really busy right now with other things, and Phoenix has trouble reading, so it might take a bit. Just so you know, it's over 11,600 words.
FAQs? New member guides? "Thriving" guides? "How to become your Quaestor's favorite" guide? Oh yea, baby... oh, yea...
I've got an "Equite-class" class outline on a sheet of paper, and I will be working to flesh it out in the coming weeks.
