Wow! A day late. Well no one is perfect. My Saturday got busier then I had been expecting and I was gone for most of it. We went and saw Cloverfield last night. Awesome flick if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. It’s shot from the perspective of someone with a home movie camera, kind of like the Blair Witch movie was. If you get motion sickness easily then take Dramamine before going to see it.

Yesterday I did get the chance to sit in on HMR’s conclave. The house summit gets together once a week if possible, every other week if not to take a look at how the house and battle teams are doing, keep the lines of communication open and stay on top of the things. I started that myself when I was leading HLK and it worked very well, especially if you have summit members who are unable to be on IRC for long periods of time or are in different time zones that make it difficult to communicate during the week. We all have jobs, school and real lives and it can be hard. Communication is the biggest obstacle to overcome in any organization and I think we are doing a better job of it then we have in the past.

Some of the things I spoke to HMR about and later emailed HLK about were reports and doing them on a weekly basis. It is my firm belief that reports are important. Not only to the group you are leading, whether it be a house or a battle team, but also to those you report to. Letting them know you are doing things, being active, and helping your members find their place in your group. It mentions achievements and puts members in the spot light so they can say, ‘Look what I’ve done!’ and that encourages people to do more. Some have argued that it’s just a regurgitation of other people’s reports, spitting out the same information over and over. It doesn’t have to be if you learn how to do reports correctly.
